freebird
Here it is,I and other people been using parts from and letting this quest sit around for the last 15 years.I am willing to bring it back to life!!So here goes, btw I have another sbc swap thread if you want part numbers or info on parts used. http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/jaybirdskate/PUTER-HP/pc16_zps9620a847.jpg after some cutting and fitting. http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/jaybirdskate/PUTER-HP/pc14_zps3d297c3b.jpg http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/jaybirdskate/PUTER-HP/pc7_zps6edf034b.jpg http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/jaybirdskate/PUTER-HP/pc5_zps64010b06.jpg http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/jaybirdskate/PUTER-HP/pc1_zps8dd433b3.jpg http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/jaybirdskate/PUTER-HP/pc11_zps364a12e5.jpg http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/jaybirdskate/PUTER-HP/pc12_zps91b6ecc2.jpg Edited April 8, 2015 by freebird
freebird
I have decided since the car was all rusted underneath to go ahead with a trans cut and install the automatic. So I have 350/350turbo a little old school but yet, reliable horsepower.http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/jaybirdskate/PUTER-HP/pc20_zps03672262.jpg as you can see the cut i made for the oil pan.welding up and painting crossmember and a little on the firewall. The firewall is 2 layers thick so i just cut the first layer to clear the dizzy and push back whats left and weld/seal it up.http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/jaybirdskate/PUTER-HP/pc22_zps7c5c5178.jpg http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/jaybirdskate/PUTER-HP/pc23_zpsee2aa0bd.jpg http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/jaybirdskate/PUTER-HP/pc27_zps12db8f93.jpg Edited April 8, 2015 by freebird
freebird
Anyways, that about all the pics i have of the progress.I dont like to stop and take pics very much.I did take a nice sheet of 14 gauge steel and make a trans tunnel out of it.Now that was hard to shape, but the thickness is what i wanted to make up for any weakness from cutting/welding. As of now this is what i have from a parts car that was intended to scrap, i just couldnt do that to this one for some reason.http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/jaybirdskate/PUTER-HP/pc34_zpsd24ece0d.jpg http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/jaybirdskate/PUTER-HP/pc33_zpsd47e47a2.jpg http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/jaybirdskate/PUTER-HP/pc31_zps0ae5d884.jpg http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/jaybirdskate/PUTER-HP/pc32_zps7bc13d40.jpg http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/jaybirdskate/PUTER-HP/pc30_zpsae3dd65e.jpg

R-R-Quest
Not bad, Freebird! I'm liking it! Are you gonna' finish off the front with black paint? And, I'm curious what you used for headers; what car were they intended for? Also, what are you doing about the driveshaft? Will it need to be shortend or just a differnt u-joint to mate the Startquest shaft to the TH350 yoke?
duckheads
Nice! Plenty of time before the next NW Indiana meet to get her ready to drive up!
freebird
yea, i need to get out more. Meet up with some of you locals would be nice.Maybe when my girlfreind and I finally get married you all can drive over and meet at the church.....lol that would be cool. This parts car is a driver now man....the drive shaft and all is in there! I do major burn outs...LoLIt is a starquest shaft with a yoke welded to it.the headers I use are either fabed or from a nova ll like a 1962 or so.this is not my first rodeo, I've done a few.Which is why this one came together so fast. And yes im still working on the black paint, the front end and grill came from lepore's old project. here's pics of my other swap I owne.http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/jaybirdskate/PUTER-HP/pc35_zps6444c8d9.jpg http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/jaybirdskate/PUTER-HP/pc36_zpsa18d9d97.jpg http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/jaybirdskate/PUTER-HP/pc38_zpsedc31873.jpg http://i778.photobucket.com/albums/yy68/jaybirdskate/PUTER-HP/pc37_zpsf4b08567.jpg Edited January 2, 2014 by freebird
freebird
here's a list I made years ago. I used a t5 camaro trans back then and the starter was an issue. The auto's i use a oem starter 1. front sump oil pan from chevy2only.com http://www.parts123....?parta~partsort a. be sure to get the distributor drive rod with the new pump because it is shorter than oem rear sump. b. depending on what year and how man main cap bolts you have you may need to modify the pickup tube. I can help with that, just ask. $200-400 2.The best and most forgiving engine mounts are from trans dapt, get the weld in biscuit type. $60-80 http://tdperformance...oducts/?id=3297 3.trans mount I used the oem mitsubishi mount,or 1x1 square tube with angles welded to the ends free or get the art morrison for $60 4.drive shaft You may be able to weld this yourself if you have a good welder. just be sure your runout dont exceed .060'' It cost me $125.00 to have this welded at a professional shop thats cheap enough I thought!!! knuckle to knuckle was 25'' 5. sanderson Headers from nova joe(great guy)....62-novall headers same car the oil pan comes from. these headers are not the only option but where my favorite and work perfectly even if you want to install a turbo down the road. They come ceramic coated for 325.00 not cheap but very nice.http://www.novajoe.c...ct_headers.html Or you can use the flowtech chevy 2 headers for $150 shipped 6. fuel system can be kept the same. just add a 4309 malllory 3 port fuel regulator and adjust the fuel to your carb. 7. wiring is easy for the carb set up. a. under the dash after you remove the old harness there is the junction connector that cant be taken out but runs to the ecu harness these wires come from the dash cluster and from the ignition switch. b. you will see a big black and yellow wire= this goes to the starter. c. you will see a big light blue wire = this comes from ignition, I ran it to the black and white wire that is only about a foot from the junction, which is the test wire or prime wire for the fuel pump. I just ran them together and the pump runs when I need it to, for now anyways not sure how long it will last like that??? 8.starter I found a 96 corvette starter is the best fit for this swap. its reliable and small @ only about 5-6'' long. which was nice to run the exhaust behind it. $100 used $200 new 9. distributor I now have a big distributor in there and it fits but its coming out. You can use an old points dist. and install a hei conversion kit in it and for about 100 or less you have a nice small distributor. freebird
The butt dyno is awesome, feels like 400 hp or so.i think i had some front tire lift at one time. When the snow clears were gonna get a video. I dont have any money in this 350, A guy built it years ago for his 68 camaro, then put it in his wood hauler truck till the camaro got painted.I bought the truck cheap! So i am very happy with it, when I had the oil pan off is when I made my mind up that I was using it for this project.Everything shines like new. The carb came from a 454 and its a 750 or so... Stuck between tbi or a better carb. mainly because of hood clearance. I dont like the cowl hood because it lets rain in the back, so it needs modified.I am not gonna keep this car in the garage. I have nicer ones in there that stay...lol I think jhanson was the members name that fabed these drift bumbers....like i said I got mine from Lepore years ago.I have no bumper behind it. it wieghts like 10lbs. Its mounted on two brackets i made to fit in between the headlight bucket frames.and screwed under the front fenders of course. I will make it a little safer but thats about what it takes to hang this thing.makes for a very good weight saver with that iron block in the engine bay. For now the car is just a hobby. But i have been considering taking it to a track in the spring. I have other mods going on with the car im sure some of you may like. So I'll try and keep updating pics when i can.
