Just joined the club, very new at this, love my Conquest. Original owner, have had it for 24 years way before you TSI's. Going through third engine rebuild and body restoration. Will start posting most recent pics asap... going to be nice; stay tuned.

I dont know how you did it but your car has my attention....the color scheme and stripe (not a fan of racing stripes on our cars) looks great. Also nice rims to match the car...bravo

One of my favorite looking flatties i think...i want more pictures :P

Original owner since '85:

Stationed overseas in Germany, 1990: started upgrades; no name brand aftermarket IC, 2.5" exhaust, Center Force clutch, Eibach springs, KYB struts, Riken rims 16" x 8", instaled european body kit, rear spoiler and front airdam for IC and new paint job.

Stateside 1993: bored out block .030 over, JE pistons, 12 A turbo (or whatever the stock TSI turbo is), balancing shaft eliminated, MCA jets removed, lightened flywheel, Master Blaster ignition, Trust blow-off valve, TEP cam with hydraulic lifters and 3angle racing cut intake valves, modified air intake can, custom 3/4" rear 1/2" front sway bars.

1994: replaced stock block and pistons after cracking the block racing a 302 mustang.

2003: was going to junk it and found STARQUEST with links to sites for parts, replaced exhaust with full stainless 2.5 " exhaust and new KYB struts.

2004: repainted with the silver racing stripe. Found Horsepower Enterprises (custom mechanic/ high end auto body shop).

2008: over hauled brakes with TEP vented discs, kevlar pads, steel braided lines and powder coated calipers, replaced IC hoses with TEP OVC hard pipes and upgraded Turbo XS blow-off valve.

Flatty Love... i have an 85 also... what are your plans for it?

Now that I have the rust under control, next step; take out engine, bore out cylinders .040, JE pistons, 19C Race turbo at 18 PSI, large core *DM aluminum radiator ($200 less than Race TEP's, same radiator), Race Pro Grip clutch, Innovate air/fuel ratio meter, change power steering box (been leaking for years), paint engine compartment, drop front suspension and epoxy coat.

After all that see how the body paint is holding up maybe new paint job, new stereo, and make sure A/C is working optimally. I like driving comfortably and not sweat my rear off. What are your plans? Getting parts is not easy unless you have a car lot full of extra Starquests that's why I could never stip it down to bare bones. As long as its clean of rust and looks good I'm happy.

Found Mookeeh bushings, now I can get the rear suspension arms powder coated the way it should have been done when I had it all apart. Back to the old drawing board, going to do the front suspenson and differential housing as well, then move on to engine compartment.

nice! im plan on running a 19c on my flatty too... keep me updated on the engine overhaul?

thanks

Not going with the 19C anymore, opened up a thread on "Advanced Mechanic" about hitting 350 HP, will be going with a T3/T4 turbo rated at 450 + output. Got a lot of info from that thread and will be making lots of changes. Instead of J E, going with Wiseco .030 over bore, ordering them today.

Okay. This gives me a lot of ideas for my 85 Conquest. I'm about to rebuild the engine. Started out just replacing old gaskets but while i'm in there I might as well get everything out of the way now. Definitely give the thumbs up on the paint. I'm not looking for power like you but just enough to show the locals who's top dog and stay running through the rest of college.

I really wasn't planning on getting this involved but I am going to sink $$$ into the engine so I thought it would be a good idea to make sure I'm not puting all that time and money into a rust bucket. I'm glad I did, found some rust along passenger side rail through to the carpet so now I know everything is pretty clean (not like ColdScrip) but good enough for me and some piece of mine. So if your going to do a major engine rebuild, keep in mind the foundation. Fortunately, there are a lot more parts still available for our '85s then I first thought. Good luck, look forward to some pics. Edited by pc85

did you really have to label those swaybars front and left?

lol

where did you buy new lsd mounts?

I'm not as hands on, if I ever tried doing what you did, I would have tons of left over parts and I doubt it would ever be even close to driveable. Not sure about the labeling of the sway bars and Isd mounts, that was all done through "Horsepower Enterprises" where the car has been living since spring '09.

Not going to pull engine this Fall, had major renovation $$$ project this Summer. So took *DM aluminum radiator from my "engine in a box" pile and decided to spend a weekend under the hood.

http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab51/pc85dr/85%20Revived/IMG_0618.jpg

Skinny and rusty OEM radiator.

http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab51/pc85dr/IMG_0621.jpg

http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab51/pc85dr/IMG_0623.jpg

New *DM aluminum radiator, twice the capacity, half the weight.

http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab51/pc85dr/IMG_0626.jpg

MK 1 Silicone hoses, great fit if you don't cut them too short (I would never do that).

http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab51/pc85dr/IMG_0627.jpg

Very tight, thank God for Vaseline, 1000 and 1 uses.

http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab51/pc85dr/IMG_0628.jpg

Had to trim the blades back about 1/8", slight rubbing on the bottom side of radiator. FYI for any other Flatty's with stock fan.

http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab51/pc85dr/IMG_0630.jpg

Painted fan shroud.

http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab51/pc85dr/IMG_0631.jpg

*DM heater silicone hoses. Those were fun to change; not.

http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab51/pc85dr/IMG_0632.jpg

MK 1 silicon vacuum hose.

http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab51/pc85dr/IMG_0633.jpg

http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab51/pc85dr/IMG_0634.jpg

All back together, doesn't run any faster but looks better and runs much cooler!

http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab51/pc85dr/IMG_0635.jpg

http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab51/pc85dr/IMG_0636.jpg

http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab51/pc85dr/IMG_0637.jpg

Not fun at all, very tight fit with the TEP hard pipes.

http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab51/pc85dr/IMG_0639.jpg

http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab51/pc85dr/IMG_0640.jpg

Wanted to install my 4" *DM high performance IC and 2 1/4" hard pipes but will have to remove can, install cold air intake and change rigid oil lines for SS lines. This is looking like a very long term project.
