First pic is why I started this. Saw the Starion from a product placement in Jackie Chan’s movie WheelsonMeals, asked my brothers about it, and they said the car is old and I'd never find one in Canada. When I was looking for my first car in first year university, this popped up on kijiji (craigslist of Canada) and in my city too. I took it as a sign :D Bought it even though everyone said it was a rust bucket and got yelled at badly by my parents. I’ve been into cars ever since. The car lasted me a summer and a half until there was a massive oil leak in my engine. Brought it to a mechanic and it turns out the car has a really big unrepairable cracked in the cylinder head. I already spent too much money fixing other stuff on it and didn’t want to spend more buying a new cylinder head so I decided to park it until I graduate, and swap a 2jz. (got this idea while watching fast and furious)

This is how my car look when I got her. I love this picture because the rain filled in all the imperfection and can’t see any rust from far away and also hidden by the mud flaps. Over the years it was always covered up but has gotten alot more rusty.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_0101_zpsdxk0kvgd.jpg

Now I am graduated, sadly not in mechanics so my gf bought me an auto fundamentals book and I’ve been learning and researching on my own.

Here goes:

How she looks now after three years and no rain.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_1116_zpsua7zotiu.jpg

First time removing the bumper off along with everything in this car, took me forever because the 6 Phillip screw holding the fog lights are rusted off so I had to drill all of them.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3134_zpstzyyp2qh.jpg

I was wondering why there were so much rust falling on me while I was underneath the car… and this answered the question. Currently trying to buy a clean bumper frame from US but can’t seem to find a decent one. I know shipping will probably kill me. I think I might just get as much of the rust off and use rust paint on it. The bottom mounts are all gone but the top screw mounts should hold the bumper.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3144_zpsilu2hexm.jpg

Rusted and broken bolts nearly everywhere on the bumper assembly, front two fenders and the rear panel covers… and basically the car.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3231_zpswutul10i.jpg

I know it is a Conquest imported for Plymouth but I am in denial. Offerings to my car shrine before I start. My gf got me the puzzle of my car :D

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3154_zps8oprmnhy.jpg

Air dam has a very long cracked, small cracks in other areas scratched up.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3129_zps5gab31zb.jpg

Cleaned up the cracks, enlarge it somewhat.. filled it in with bondo fiberglass and then bondo, sanded it all down and paint

Rust..Didn’t take pictures of all four, but this is what it basically was for the front fenders and rear panels. Underneath the mudflaps are the worst of it.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3189_zpswmzstlvl.jpg

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3192_zpsidhf4fis.jpg

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3191_zpswu00qmka.jpg

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3226_zpsah4aef9h.jpg

I try to grind all of it off till i see bare metal and then filled in the missing metal spot with fiberglass and then fill in imperfection with bondo. Most of it was surface rust but there were a few missing pieces.. Sanding in between each step until my arms are numb and then prime and paint. This isn’t the pro way to fix rust but hopefully it should keep the rust away for a few years.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3308_zpsfqezqncp.jpg

There were also rust behind the fenders too so had to get that.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3262_zpsjop3e4tr.jpg

Painted the bottom and inner side of the fenders with rustoleum to help prevent rust and the outside with automotive paint.

There were rust here too. Cant see it in this picture but my car has side trims right below the doors, I use this line to separate and paint everything underneath with rustoleum rust paint since itll be more expose to the road, and above it with automotive paint. Same with my fenders and panels, anything that isn’t facing out is painted with rustoleum to protect against rust.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3235_zps21hwguru.jpg

Did some small things like sanding and painting the wiperblades.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3361_zpsaxeozpbp.jpg

Used automotive glue to put the cowl back together so its just two pieces.. and priming and painting it black.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3418_zpscim6zd8s.jpg

Asked my lil nephew to tape up the trim line for me… found this after I painted the panels.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3268_zpswuw2mwso.jpg

Not super noticeable tho.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3297_zpskntkuxye.jpg

Clean up the four wheels well, sanded off as much rust as i could and sprayed with the rubber asphalt. looked a lot cleaner.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3185_zpsmpah4jim.jpg

Did the side frame, and the area underneath the wiper blades cowl too while I was at it.

Imagine going to bed and the weather is summer, and waking up to this. Messed up weather where I’m from. This was back in late April or Early May. That’s my trusted daily driver 2004 honda civic si…VVVTTECCC = Virtually Torqueless Economical Car

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3198_zpsjfwesmjg.jpg

Finally filled in two big cracks and caved in spot on the roof, don’t know what caused it, it was there when I got the car.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3219_zps9j9mm8po.jpg

Couple shots of the interior of my car. I think it is very clean so I plan on keeping it this way.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3240_zpsmfedixwu.jpg

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3249_zpsvid27il7.jpg

Quick rinse before they go in the back.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3363_zpswa5i6ohz.jpg

Can’t hog all the garage space so this is where I keep all my stuff so they don’t get damaged.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3412_zpsruu9bqyn.jpg

Discovered that my passenger rear outer cv boot is cracked, so.. duct taped for now to keep dirt out.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3330_zpspu2otffo.jpg

Bought steering column bezel from “nasteboyii”, 2jz mounts from “vettekiller593”, and some random stuff from enginemachineservice, accidently purchase the manual brake pedal cover for my automatic. Lesson learn from this is don't use UPS if you live in Canada. I still considered USPS to be high still.

Top steering bezel has a big chunk missing (already knew about it when I purchased it),

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3317_zpslwx9i49g.jpg

Grind away the lil plastic pieces sticking out, was going to cut another piece of plastic and glue it in but I decided to fill it in with fiberglass instead and paint.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3321_zpsjvo5sbku.jpg

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3383_zpsn2dsbg9j.jpg

Sanded down the fresh paint so it looks less noticeable. It’s in a very hard to see spot anyway.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3390_zpsrs5eibvq.jpg

Now I have a complete interior for my car :) steering bezel were the only thing missing from this car. Original conquest floor mat, and even have the 1986 owners book with a dealership business card stapled to it.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_0442_zpsj4h48p7d.jpg

So is this car 1985 or 1986?

Decided to remove the spoilers because it is very rusty, rust falls from it every time I touch it.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3296_zps4jyejcos.jpg

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3293_zps5bst8xzw.jpg

Couldn’t get to the middle bolt..I think I have to remove the rear speakers and peeled off the rubber or something, so since I don’t plan on keeping it because it’s too rusty, I did some chopping and drilling.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3331_zpsn07tog4u.jpg

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3345_zpsv0g6n3zv.jpg

The rear spoiler was not as bad. This is how the car looks after. Removed the Conquest imported for Plymouth and Turbo emblem too. Thinking about putting the Turbo emblem back, take the conquest emblem from the front grill and put it where the Plymouth use to be. Then put the triple diamond on the front grill. :D

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3354_zpsztevxn3n.jpg

Sanded off all the rust, and filled in all the holes with fiberglass and bondo and sanding. At this point, I am very sick of body work. Professional body works people must have incredible patience!

This is how it looks now. Hopefully no one thinks its an ae86.

Tried to blend in the new clear coat with the original on my roof, cutting it with 1500 grit, buff it with turtle wax rubbing compound, and waxed it but it doesn’t work. Im in trouble… any ideas anyone? The different is so noticeable. Maybe I didn't put enough clear coat. did 4 layers tho. Don’t have budget for a full paint job, so I might just plastidip the whole car, I always wanted to do matte black and I think it will be a nice extra protection from the weather. The paint is in bad condition too.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3526_zpsqn6ctmee.jpg

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_0435_zpswfhgqpmc.jpg

Looking for some taillights.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3521_zpsnnqh2j8s.jpg

Need new windshield too but don’t plan on shipping them..

This haunts me at night..

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3397_zpsrkhjkfvb.jpg

Just purchased two zinc coated fog light buckets since mine is rusted away, this is a new record high for shipping cost so far. Its equivalent to 78$ Cad. The buckets were worth 30$ Cad. Wishing to live in a world with free shipping.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3568_zpsrkfk85ro.jpg

Chopping off catalytic converter by hand because the bolts are rusted so bad that my impact gun couldn’t do a thing.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3514_zpsqtgbzfrz.jpg

Finally got an engine hoist from princess auto and was so excited that I decided to remove the engine in the same day. First time doing it.

There’s me and my big brother. Yup I’m sure there is a ton of things wrong with this picture but hey I learned a lot and I think it’ll be a lot smoother next time.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3535_zpsi1ilgedd.jpg

So ya im starting to clean the engine bay, removing everything I don’t need with the 2jz and painting it. Going to keep the power steering gear box and the break components though. Here is how the engine bay look as of now.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3582_zpsybdexrli.jpg

I have a few questions for the experts..Do I need to keep the vacuum tank along with its connecting vacuum valve control etc.? my ABS and AC is deleted long ago.

Do I need the speed control actuator? Is this just responsible for cruise control? Got myself in such an uncomfortable position trying to remove the cable from the accelerator.

Last one is the vacuum pump, need it?

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3600_zps8ksvjvg0.jpg

Charcoal canister.. there is a steel hose line that connects to it (bottom of picture), and it goes all the way back under the car and to the gas tank I believe. SHOULD I delete the charcoal cannister? can I just cut the steel hose somewhere and block it off? Will gas vapor come out of it?

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3601_zpsj4xvfwvh.jpg

Is this the boost sensors? Do I need?

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3619_zpsrfjkn4db.jpg

Keep the knock control? It’s a different engine so Im guessing no, and what are the two plug thingy? Looks like relays.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3620_zpsinmvglio.jpg

Last two is the noise suppression filter and capacitor, looks like it’s just responsible for the ignition coil. Do I need?

Not sure if anyone else had a problem like this but I remove my battery a long time ago when the car was parked, and now I have no power source to pop up my headlights. While trying to find the right wires to connect an external source of power, I found that if you remove the rubber there is a gear underneath so just turn it, then your headlight will slowly go up.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3621_zpsifmf349d.jpg

Sorry bare with me, this is my first time opening a car and seeing all of this. Got a few more questions:

What does this do? theres two of them on the passenger firewall side. (relays)

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3660_zpsgx1qf1mw.jpg

What is this wire? wondering if I could cutt it. I didn't see it attached to anything when I remove stuff. (for 02 sensor)

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3644_zps4clidtal.jpg

I assume this entire thing has to do with the ac. (cut and plug)

Up to date now. June 12 2015. Got a pressure washer for a good price today at Canadian Tire, I got really excited and get the work removing some more stuff so I can finally spray the engine bay and watch the greasy and dirt fall off. Its amazing how you can push a car in and out of the garage by yourself once the engine and transmission is out.

Removed the headlights, steering lines, brake fluid reservoir and a couple lil things. The engine bay looks so much better when the harnesses are separated to each side. Question: Do I need anything from the wiring harness such as a specific plug that I should cut out.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3658_zpsauw1seq2.jpg

Plugged off the gear box, heater hose, brake cylinder, etc.. so I think I can finally start spraying down the engine bay tomorrow. Not too sure what to do with the fuel filter and the lines yet. Will probably just leave it there. You can still see the steel line that connect to the charcoal canister running across the firewall. Really annoying. Can someone tell me if I can just cutt that off.

ya I use a grinder and wire brush all the rust out before I bondo and paint them. I'm currently trying to sand down my engine bay. It is a very long painful process. Got a sand blasting gun today with some abrasives, problem is the compressor is only 2 gallons so I can only spray for 15 seconds and wait... Its useful for the spots my wire brush cant get to though.

I feel your shipping pain! You basically need to double the cost of anything you want to buy :(

To answer a couple questions: The pinkish red connector with the single wire is for the O2 sensor (Don`t think you`ll be needing that) and the two hoses in the next picture are indeed for the AC and can be cutoff/plugged. The cylindrical guy with the bracket is a relay, but I'm not sure what it controls. And that is your MAP sensor with altitude solenoid.

What are you planing to do with the G54B block and accessories??

hey thanks for answering my questions. I'm not doing anything with them but don't wanna trash them either. I have most of the stuff except the head and the radiator. still have fans, inter cooler, turbos, pipes, etc. transmission is good too, but its auto. Its all yours if you come get them, trade me that louver :)

got a pressure washer to wash the engine bay.

got a service manual for 1986 and wow is it thick..

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3717_zpsoogeeqyo.jpg

couldnt take the painfully slow 2 gallon compressor anymore so I got a 26 master-craft gallon compressor to sandblast. sooo much faster.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/IMG_3723_zpsxero5isy.jpg

finally primed it today with rustoleum rust primer, i forgot to clean inside the area underneath where the engine mount were.

i dont know if anyone got back to you on this but the big 2 are for

AC but the little coper one controls your foot face controls for the

heater and ac.

it controls the placement the air will blow.

foot - face - defrost.

make sure you have the proper vac source going to it.

thank you for all the support. its my first time doing all of this stuff about cars, so I have to search quite abit before I do anything. I haven't done anything yet because I was struggling harder than I thought trying to find paint for the engine bay. I walked into NAPA, walked to the counter and said I want a grey paint, and the guy looked at me like I'm an idiot and didn't offer any help at all. so I walk out. so EMBARRASSING. I read up on type of primer, base-coat and clear and other stuff before I headed back. I ask the guy for dark grey metallic paint and they quoted 124$ for one Litre.. not to mention catalyst and reducer... So I decided to use Chrysler single stage black as reccomended by a buddy. with hardener and reducer it comes to only 100$!

I also found a good deal on Kijiji from a guy who crashed his civic so I got them for my daily. I got magna flow catback exhaust, led back light, K&N short ram intake, and a set of motegi racing rims with tires, I decided to paint the rim satin black because it looked beat up with an ugly grey. it was all for 350$ and totally change the look of the car. the exhaust sounds very nice but the car is very slow.

http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag109/kawiwee/6F73D3A6-62BE-4A5E-A9B0-7F4F85CF8FDF_zpsow6smwfw.jpg

anyways this has nothing to do with the car, but i finally found a 40 hours/week part time lab technician job so I can make money again. not the job i was hoping for with a chem engg degree but its better than nothing. its also why I haven't had anytime to work on the car.

I should be done painting the bay this weekend.
