slowbra01
I'm changing my alternator to the hyundai replacement. I want to do good maintenance by this and start replacing old wires. I want to change out the fusible link wires according to this link http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=88954 I wanted to just purchase fusible link wire in the different gauges and make my own but according to this thread, http://starquest.i-x.net/viewtopic.php?t=1180&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=25 , finding and using the right female connectors on my own is a bad idea. So instead I rather decrease errors in making my own fusible links and just buy the links from Mitsubishi. Just wondering if anyone has a cheap source online since the sources i've come across are charging ridiculous prices on shipping.

ucw458
The stock fuse link and charge wire were designed for the stock alternator. Not a 100 amp upgrade. If you're upgrading the alternator you should upgrade the wiring as well. Run an 8 ga power wire from the alternator output to the battery. Then add in a modern fuse like the one in the link posted below. Or whatever fuse box you want. Just make sure the fuse rating matches or is slightly higher than your alternator output. A 125 amp fuse is fine for a 100 amp alternator. It's only there incase the charging wire shorts on the block. https://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,extras,1,subgroup,Fuse,parttype,1000921
slowbra01
ucw458 Looked at the wiring that's on the car right now, the wire from the alternator to the battery appears to be of already upgraded.http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f187/jmisenas/DSCN1542.jpg Please forgive the crud on the battery, that's my fault since i let it sit there since Sept when i last parked the car. I'm very extremely new to wiring but i am willing to learn with guidance. I just want to make sure i have your suggestion correct. So is this how the 120 amp fuse should be integrated into the wiring?http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f187/jmisenas/Alternatorwiring.jpg I will be ordering the fusible links from that source RonnieJthanks! slowbra01
As you can see in this pic, there is a ground wire from the body of the alternator to the engine block. Where can i get that kind of flexible wire? I can just use any wire i have right?http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d182/Professor-Quest123/Batt%20Grd/P1010345.jpg Below is a pic of the alternator that i want to install. There are bolts that hold the front and back of the alternator together, an example is the bolt below the B+ connection. Can i put the ground wire there. It should be safe (i wont mess anything up) by loosening this bolt in order to place a ring terminal for the ground wire right?http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f187/jmisenas/DSCN1543.jpg
ucw458
It goes battery, fuse, wire to alt. The extra ground strap is not needed. The alt grounds through the case and that is bolted to the block in 2 places. The bolt locations are the ground. But you must be sure the battery grounds to the block and the chassis. That's very important. If you are having electrical problems clean all the chassis grounds first. It's a common issue and the first thing people will tell you to do. slowbra01
any suggestions on how i go about upgrading these wires. Seems there's no way to disconnect or remove them from the black box. Where can i get a new black box?
TexasQuest
Honestly I wouldn't be hacking into the harness. I've been running the 100 amp alternator fine for over 2 years with good clean wires and grounding points.
