I have a 88 Conquest that I am wanting to upgrade the stereo to one with more modern features i.e. blutooth, streaming, usb etc.... I am wanting to install a double din head unit but crutchfield and sonicelectronix both say a single din with a kit is the only thing that will fit. Is this true, ha anyone installed a double din in their starquest and if so were any modifications needed? I have already bought the wiring harness now I just need to make sure I am getting the right size stereo.

Thanks

Double din will install no problem. Get very familiar w how things are screwed and bolted around it before you begin install. All plastic parts are old and brittle if you put any pressure on them they will break or snap.

Thanks guys. The 1988 Service Manual illustrates that the center console has to be removed to access the stereo, is this correct?

Yes, the main center console has to come out with the radio. Just follow the service manual and it will be not sweat.

Thanks guys. Has anyone been able to keep their steering wheel controls? I have seen several interfaces out there and I am just asking everyone's opinion which would work best and would it be better to have someone install it for me?

There is a package adapter for the steering wheel controls. You hook it up and program it to which button does what funcyion. Crutchfield carries it, nut I can't remember the model number. Also Kenwood makes a double din that can be installed without an installation kit.
