michael hollen
After a few years of having this complete system sitting in the garage, I finally decided to install the kit. There is only one thing that I can't seem to find anywhere, that is how or where or what sequence the 3-wires are plugged into the TPS. I read some where if hooked up wrong could cause damage to the system. If anybody can help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated
JohnnyWadd
I don't know that setup but it just a 5 volts reference and a ground and a signal back to ECU...
slowquest
What tps are you using? Most use a ford throttle body with the factory ford sensor.
scott87star
It would help to know which TPS pigtail you're attempting to splice together but I can give you some general guidelines. The 3 wires are 5V from the controller, ground back to the controller and signal back to the controller. You can't cheat and ground it to the motor, it has to go back to the controller, make sure of this. The Starquest pigtail will be green wires with stripes, red stripe is +5V, white stripe is signal and black stripe ground. Ford uses gray wires but with the same colored stripes. On the connector the middle pin is ALWAYS signal so you can't get that wrong. The other two are the 5V and ground, if you accidentally reverse them the TPS will work backwards, meaning it will be 5V with no throttle and pretty much 0V with the throttle mashed to the floor. Nothing will be harmed, just reverse the power and ground so you get 0V or close to it with no throttle and 5V or close to it with the throttle mashed to the floor. Then don't forget to CALIBRATE your TPS, under tools in megatune or tuner studio. And when you realize how terrible the firmware is I can reflash that for you. Terrible is relative, its just old and massive improvements have been made.
Funky Phil
if its the ford 70mm supplied by FIP with the TPS on the inside toward valve cover:TOPyellowredblackBOTTOM But thats only IF they kept the same wiring pattern on all harnesses
michael hollen
Thanks everybody for the great info. BTW, it is the original throttle body and tps that came with the FIP set-up
