Trust me I've been studying like crazy on this thing... I'm building it because my grandparents will be pumped. Already ordered plugs, wires, cap and rotor with a bosch red coil from top end performance. This forum is really helpful so far. I'm a big VW nerd so now I'm venturing onto this

Welcome.

Do your research about top end performance. There are plenty of places to get parts that aren't marked up that much, and their "performance" parts have been brought into question in the past. Rockauto.com or enginemachineservice.com will usually have what you'll need.

Looks like a nice car to start with. So, please ask questions while you are building it. There's a ton of info here, but the search function is tough to use sometimes, so if you run into something, and the search doesn't yield results, ask any of us. We'll help where we can.

ok, thank you.. i assumed this forum was like vwvortex and god forbid you ask anything without getting harassed about not using the search. the VW kids are annoying as hell these last 5+ years. one reason i dont go to the shows, meets or forums anymore.   i knew the prices seemed steep from top end, but that was my only purchase so far for the car.

What performance websites do you recommend once I get all the typical maintenance done

It really depends on what you're looking for.  There's not much commercial aftermarket support for these cars, so those that do (i.e. Top End) tend to be pretty expensive, as well as questionable products.  That said, I've had most of my success dealing with member/vendors here on SQC.  Just some that come to mind are listed below.  These aren't all of them by any means, but this list contains those who are active on the boards.

Dad - engine parts and service

Funky Phil - various performance upgrades, custom fabrication

GNT Performance - various suspension and linkage

Motocam 360 - various accessories and upgrades

Elutions Desgin Bureau - stand alone fuel management

Natallica Reproductions - Reprographics

JDL Auto Design - custom fabrication

And of course I do a lot of custom stuff as well.

Niko is too humble. He is a top vendor in this community. He has brought some very nice products to market for us all... Including

88-89 styled Airdams in a stronger than factory TPO plastic.
Wiper cowls in the same TPO plastic
Euro styled hatch spoilers
Custom floormats

Just to name a few....

Some guys might give you grief about the search... But I have found that anything I need to research, I can google the question, With Starquestclub.com at the end of the search question and find the topic threads much faster. Hope that helps some. Cheers,

BC
