Well, I am a Conquest owner again. I previously owned a 1988 Conquest for about 6 years in the mid 90's: Fiji Blue, 5spd (SHP - although at the time didn't know that was what it was called) blk leather.

After that came a few Turbo Dodge models (and a 78' Mustang King Cobra) bought & sold and now back to where I originally started: 1988, 5spd, blk leather, SHP although this one is "Rio\Mexican"? Red w\60k miles.

This is still on the trailer arriving in New Jersey after 1,400 miles and two days of dirt, had to be rinsed off!

Nice 60k engine bay - only mod is removal of pre-cat and added downpipe (I am registered historic in NJ so no need for emission testing);

Interior, although I just noticed I am missing the cover for the lumbar knob!

My old Quest had a ribbed shift boot cover, this one has leather, I thought the previous owner had added it but I saw a few brochures for 88' & 89' Quests that had a factory leather cover so not sure now?

Finally got a chance to properly wash it, polish & wax & take it out for a bit;

Its been a long time since I've had one of these so I'll be having a few questions soon, in the meantime I want to put the original radio\cassette in there & I purchased a short shifter from Mokeeh to put in. Its nice to actually have a place to go with questions now. With my previous one in 1993 I was left to figure things out on my own, there was a starquest forum site just starting out though I remember checking it a few times but nothing of course like this.

Those 88/89 seats look really nice...most are sun dried and battered....what did you pay for this clean 88 w/ 60k?

Theres a red car for sale in Jersey that looks a like this one. It's obviously a different car though.

Very nice ride. Welcome.

I saw that one F\S listed in the classifieds here, being in N.J. that would have been much better to get as I know exactly the town it is in. However he is asking for $20,000! I bought this one for a whole lot less than that; $7,500

So although it would have saved me about 1,370 miles to go get this one, I don't think he would have come anywhere close to the ballpark of what I was going to pay.

Weird thing is that one also has a leather shift boot like mine, I really wonder what that was all about? Back in the day when I had my first one I never saw one with a boot like that, they were all the ribbed kind. I wonder what was up with this type of boot, like was it randomly put in some only with the SHP option? Or all the red ones? Or did they run out of the ribbed boots towards end of production (the one in the ad is an 89' and mine is a late 88')?

Oh and BTW "techboy" your restoration thread is both awesome to read and inspiring! Love how it turned out!

The lwater shift boots were supposedly installed in 88's and 89's. The previous generations had the rubber "ribbed" boot you mentioned. I personally like the ribbed one better, Ive swapped out all my leather boots for a rubber one. They just always seem to be dried out and nasty looking to me.

Edit - looking back at your pics yours actually looks pretty decent. It also looks like you might have a short shifter installed. The boot seems to be really "cupped out" in the one pic.
