  1. I posted a 4g63 swap topic that I did in a 510 a short while ago. The stock Starion 5-speed does not bolt up. You have to use the D50 5-speed. But that creates a problem, the D50 trans uses a cable for the clutch unlike the Starions master and slave setup. On my car I used the D50 for the bellhousing only and used the rear Starion housing and gears. I cut a hole for the clutch fork and made a bracket for the slave cyl. One option you might try is to use a Ford input shaft mounted throwout bearing , They use it on Rangers. As for the mounts I used D50 mounts. I don't know how you want the engine to sit. As for me as low and as for back as possible. The 4G63 has 2 things on the back of the engine, 1. cam angle sensor, and 2. water outlet. I cut an area in the firewall to clear it all. The oil pan was another problem all together. "custom" Â But all in all it was a pretty easy. I would highly recommend the 4G63 swap in anything. Use the DSM electronics. Good Luck
  2. dude thats a girls car! everytime u see one a hot chick is driving it. Well you ultra cool "dude," sorry for ruffling your feathers. Your Starion is NOT a DSM. It was not made in the US. A DSM is a Diamond Star Motors. You have the advantage here. Your car was made in Japan. Mine was made by union ran workers here in the good ol' USA. Fit and finish SUCK. I may be wrong so don't sue me. As for you beating a DSM WOW thats neat. You must fast. You car should be in the next Fast and the Furious(sp?). You better sign up DUDE!!! Oh yea-- I was wrong, the G54B is the greatest motor (is it even an engine?) that ever was or will be made!!! There I said it, my true fealings.
  3. I believe all the turbo specs can be found at clubdsm.com. Look in FAQ's, then turbo. I think it lists all the mitsu turbos. hope this helps
  4. I have done a SR20 swap in an 89 240SX. NOT fun at all. A/C is totaly out of the question. Wiring is a total mess. I thought the 4G63 harness was a pain. One look at the head was enough for me to forget about the idea for me 510. I can't believe how they get the power out of that head. The lifter is right in the middle of the ports. The port spilts in 2 around the lifter then joins again. All this takes place in a matter of 2-3 inches. I would bet that that the G54B head flows as much as the SR20DET head. One of the advantages of using the SR20DET is the fact that it is all alum. So it is a very light semi-powerful package. It cost my buddy approx. $2800 for the engine, transmission and wiring harness. But the harness wasn't even complete. It was missing the igniter, which is from an Infinity Q45 . Not exactly cheap. I think it cost him $350 form a junk yard. Then you have only 200hp. That is about $15.75 per hp. WOW!!! Not even the time and labor to do the swap. I could only imagine the fab work to put it in a Starion. But it would be a sweet car when done. Along with the Nissan theme, why not a KA24DE, then turbo it?
  5. How many people had there tails handed to them by 4g63 power??? Iam willing to bet that none of you have ever beaten a DSM! Maybe you should go for a ride in a DSM you might change your tune. As for my old 5.0L or my driving - f-you. I sunk $6000 into that american POS. The same 6 grand that would make the G54B haul a**. I may not be the best driver in the world but I have no problem cutting a .350-.400 light, for those of you that have even been to a drag strip. What are some of your reaction times??? Do you even know? Did someone pee in your wheaties??? There is a reason they don't make the G54B any more. The same reason there arn't any more 5.0L or small block chevs. It is called technology. I know it may be tough for some of you to swallow, just do it slow and easy. It will go down. Am I saying don't build the G54B? NO Just don't waste too much of your hard earned money. That is all I am trying to say. Did I waste a ton of money on that pre-historic L-series that came in my 510? Not only no, but hell no! I could have done the SDS EFI thing, made manifilds blah blah blah. But I wanted low dollar reliable horses. I figure I save about 1/2 on doing the 4G63 thing. Well worth it if you ask me. To each his own. But how much does it cost to make the G54B run 12s without N2O? Can it even be done on stock ecu and ijectors? What about the bottom end? At what power level does the G54B need to be made stronger? I know the 4G63 is about 400-450 hp. And I am talking wheel hp. Just look in Turbo mag. at the Galant that they are building in Dyno cell. 437hp at the wheels with over 90K on the engine. Open and expand some of your small minds, it won't hurt!!!
  6. Does anyone have a comment to Eric Plaboni's car. He removed the g54b for 4G63 power. The last time it raced it was running 9.45 or so. That was with race weight of 3100 lbs. It still even had the fractory chassis, IRS included. If the 2.6L had so much potential, why the swap??? The stock block thing. David Busher is using the stock block and crank to run 7's. So what! I bet for every 12sec Starion there are 50 DSM's doing the same thing or better. Does that mean DSM's are better? NO! DSM's are "easier" because they made a ton of them. The world wasn't ready for the high performance import car. Detroit even tried. SVO GN Dodge 2.2Lturbos. But most poeple don't want and can't drive high output small displacement engined cars. We want the biggest, gas-hoggest, most pollutest car we can get. American thing. That is who most of the buying public is. Take a look at SUVs. 6500lb tanks. You are lucky to get 10-12 mpg. f-ing huge waste. I will take my more nimble great gas mpg quick little import any day. The days of the over weight pigs need to rest. Isn't it funny of how we got off track of the 12sec car???
  7. You obviously(sp?) did not read all of my posts! I never said I hated 2.6, starions or all of you. I will repeat it. I have a great deal of respect for ary one doing things diffrent. Someone stated that the 4G63 was a no brainer to build. Well your 50's tech pushrod elephant 502 is as easy as it gets. My 5yr old could make it fast. ???Did it ever even offer something as simple as efi??? I don't think so. I don't know the last time you priced 4G63s form some of the JDM engine suppliers, the last 4 have cost me $895 plus shipping. How much does your cost??? You can't get one! Also like I stated before, I got on this site to inform people of what it really took to do the swap. Things I learned from this site--- no firewall mods-like my 510 no oil pan mods but my trans mods still apply see my post in Plain Old B.S. - 4G63 rwd I didn't start casting stones until someone started trashing my 510. I just might pick up a newer Starion and do the 4G63 swap. james
  8. I might have a line on some 26x8.5x15 slicks I can try. Hope ets improve. Oh yea, all on pump gas driven to and from track, 2 adults and 2 kids and car seats in the back. No kids or riders on the track. My Eclipse if fairly simple. 16g 19psi boost 2g mas cartech front mount 18x6x2.75 2 1/4 intercooler pipe stock bov non-turbo fuel pressure reg. (+11 psi fuel pressure) super AFC severely ported exhaust housing, larger wastegate flapper ported O2 housing 3" mandrel bend exhaust hard pipe from mas to turbo hard pipe from mas to stock intercooler location holley 255lph fuel pump Basic stuff, but very effective to say the least.
  9. Yes it is, 60ft 2.8, 1/8th is 11.2, can't remember the mph SLOW.
  10. AMEN!!!! I agree, if I hadn't found my Eclipse I would also be driving a Starion. You know - right deal right time. But with THE GREAT 4G63 power. I've turned HARD core Toyota fans into switching to 4G63 power. I am one of those people that turn 14's here. My best on my Eclipse is 14.1 @107.3. FWD street tires and not willing to do what it takes to make it go faster. Its my daily driver. I love all the foo-foo crap, ac, power everything, stereo system, you know. All the same reasons you-all drive yours. james
  11. I was wondering how long it would take for someone to say the 2.0 started as a truck engine. The 4G63 wants to refered to as "THE GREAT 4G63". Does anyone have any comment to Eric Plabani's car??? james
  12. My point is that with the more modern "more goodies" 4g63 you don't need al the bolt ons. So if I understand right if I was looking at vettes(never) I should pick the regular 345 hp over the ZO6 to have something worth while?!? As for your comment PPL like me F__K YOU!!! I busted my a** on my car. I put more time and effort in my Datsun 510 than ANYONE one this site. I will have some pics soon. As I stated before, I respect ANYONE for doing there own thing. Bar none. I to am not trying to get in a pissing match. I have an opinion also. The first topic I posted was trying to inform people on what it really took to put a 4G63 in their cars. What I found is people starting to bash my 510. No respect. I hope we can agree that the days of uncompliant gas hog pushrod V-8s are coming to an end. That is why we are all here, right?
  13. Fork lift or truck engine either way. Last I checked my DSM says Mitsubishi. It may have been assembled in the US but it is still a Mitsu. Not all DSM's are riced out, mine being one of quite a few. In the circles that I travel we put our time and money under the hood. In one example a friend of mine has a Dodge Colt with a 4G63 swap that has bested a 11.04@133 in the quarter mile. The engine is ALL STOCK!!! Factory rods, pistons, head, cams, valves and crank, all stock. Straight TO4E 60 trim, sheet metal intake and haltech. I've never seen a 2.6L do that, in fact Eric Plaboni(spell) took out the 2.6L for the 4G63. WHY??? if the 2.6L is so great. Sakuras car is just f-ing nuts. But those crazy a** Puerto guys are not affraid to throw juice to there cars until they are fast enough. Big nads. There are pushrod 3tc Toyota engines running 8's. So that theory is void. Yes Sakuras car is fast, But just imagine how fast it would it would be if at least it was mpi. I've read that in this column. If you throw enough crap at something it will go fast. Look at top fuel cars. I sold my 5.0L when I got my a** handed to me by a DSM with only a turbo, intercooler and exhaust upgrade. A week later I had mine, a 90 Eclipse GS-T and never looked back. On a side note I did own an 84 Starion. What a POS. Give me 4 cyl any day. I have respect for anyone who does things diffrent, as in building 4 cyl engines. But why not start out with a newer (better) design? For what I have read the 4G63 swap is easy. So why not? I posted a topic on putting a 4G63 in a 510. Power to weight ratio of 5.83. Z06 Vette 8.5. Enough said. james
