Evoz17
Hello all, Ive decided to share some of my progress on my project. Its going to be a slow restoration but hopefully i dont take to long to start to enjoy the starquest. This is how the starion stood when i got it home after purchasing it back in September 2013.http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20130727_131803_zpsd85427bd.jpghttp://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20130727_131837_zpsc7b6fd37.jpghttp://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20130727_131858_zps7d83cd92.jpghttp://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20130727_151642_zpsa739c024.jpghttp://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20130727_151608_zps089a44f3.jpghttp://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20130727_151621_zps6cf20592.jpghttp://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20131004_185349_293_zps95006fbd.jpghttp://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20131004_185410_812_zpsd19bc1b1.jpg
Evoz17
I then went and changed the turbo xs bov for a stock evo8 bov i had laying around. I swaped out the plugs and wires for ngk components. The MAP sensor was held together with rtv and had no MAF. It drove fine on the 20min drive home. I went ahead and got a 1g Maf, a not held by rtv Map sensor. Did boost leak test. But now with the Maf installed, it would not rev beyond 4k. Did some more looking and found a cracked manifold. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20131019_164317_593_zps65adb13d.jpghttp://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20131022_173230_727_zps0ce6d1eb.jpghttp://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20131024_143103_186_zps9ca94467.jpgAfter finding that out i took a break from it and waited out the winter.http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20140409_171540_zps1638e9ee.jpg
Evoz17
I sourced a used manifold and was told to be in good condtion over the winter. When it got to my door and opend the box, i saw this: http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20131029_150606_074_zps1c221067.jpg Went on youtube to reseacher on how to fix it. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20131031_144740_801_zpsa05aca53.jpghttp://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20131031_144818_631_zps4c0164cd.jpg End results,http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20131101_085022_388_zps593b1a74.jpghttp://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20131101_142010_103_zpsad89b3a7.jpg I then decided id try and do some port work.http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20131118_130602_306_zpsface9bce.jpghttp://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20131118_130826_054_zpsb5f7da7c.jpg Had the mani resurfaced to ensure a good seal.http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20140409_153356_zpsb6be93d7.jpghttp://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20140409_153728_zpsd3619a1f.jpg Now i just got to use all these.http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20140409_174441_zps8218f456.jpg As of now this is how it sits. Im waiting on exhaust gaskets. I also gutted the cat. But im thinking i just have gotten a bigger full exhaust. The downpipe is a 2.5 in and bolts to a 2in cat back. I traded my OVCP for a 86 style OVCP but i regret doing it. I just should have got a bung installed for the IAT. The new pipe has the bung but it was to long and had to cut it. Plus its a 2 1/4 pipe while my old one was a 2.5in. O well.http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20140416_185933_zpsde61c58f.jpg

Evoz17
Well today I got the car all put back together. The downpipe and B pipe looks to be T.E.P pieces. I installed a aem wideband. Car didn't have a MAF when I got it so I wired in a 1g MAF. Started it up and with MAF connected it runs extremely lean and does not like to idle. Without it connected it runs extremely rich and will idle. So this weekend I will be taking apart the throttle body for a rebuild.
importwarrior
my car likes to idle about 13.5 to 13.25 on the wideband.
Evoz17
I need to replace the right axle. Rockauto list one for a non intercooled 86, are they the same as intercooled? Im sure they are.
Evoz17
Took too long of a break from this. But im getting back on it. I freshened up the TB, hopefully i get time this afternoon to bolt it back on. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20140627_083025274_zps7dbfc2f7.jpg Edited September 24, 2014 by Evoz17
Evoz17
Its been a long while but here are some updates. I added some gauges http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20130921_175551_395_zpsa099ff57.jpg steering wheel http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20130926_185929_919_zps4d7395a2.jpg I thought I had a bad alternator but it turned out to be the oem charging harness. I used 8ga OFC wire. But I didn't take a pic of the finished product.http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20140728_1711151_zps136d28c4.jpghttp://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20140822_080309_zps65f53de6.jpg I could not set the base timing and it turned out the cam was off so I redid the cam timing. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20140905_181535_zps2a25404a.jpg Was having overheating issues. OEM radiator was rusted from the inside, and pulled out the ac component's.http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20140911_161901_zps21023cac.jpghttp://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20140911_162202_zpsce694f3d.jpg
'87quest
Hey man looking good, what radiator is that? Bolt in unit? Thanks Drake
Evoz17
The radiator is a S13 sr20 model from a company called Blackworks.
randy
I thought that was another company for different radiators, progress looks great.

Evoz17
Long time from updating. I had a stumble, jerk at 3.5k rpm, truned out to be a bad vac advance. Got it switched out and all is good at 3.5k but i feel it a sluggish at higher rpm. I think it has something to do with the knock box as my timing at idle is erratic. Going to look into it. For now here is some pics. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20150414_1754264171_zpsuigshn7s.jpg http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20150414_175446797_HDR1_zpsks8clgaq.jpg Edited April 16, 2015 by Evoz17
mbruneaux
I would expect to have it stumble before 35K revs! I had a new distributor when I bought my car and still found the pick up coil wires arcing inside the distributor.
Evoz17
3.5k or 3500 rpm to get techincal
Evoz17
Came across a said to be Jolyrgr exhaust setup. Has two interchangeable ends. One 2.5 and a 3 inch tail section. But its a little to loud for my taste so going to put a muffler on it. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20150502_124456439_HDR1_zpsey7dxsa7.jpg
Evoz17
Long time from any updates. I have been fighting a max lean idle issue. Tried trilogy injectors, oem cleaned injectors, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, new walbro 255 pump, 1g maf, oem maf, tons of boost leak test, and nothing, still lean. Was very, very frustrated. I did some research and saw in Professor quest post, TPS adjust the air/fuel ratio. Even thou i could set the voltage at .49, I went ahead and did the ohm and sweep test. ZERO ohms and sweep test needle on meter went straight to zero with out touching the throttle. So I ordered the mazda tps kit, hoping that cures my issue. Fingers crossed. Evoz17
Here's a pic I posted in instagram. It was about three months ago. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t173/zapien85/starquest/IMG_20150213_1912251_zpslwavjpw9.jpg

Evoz17
Shes not on the road yet. That last pic i took it about three months ago. Cruising A/F would bounce from 13 to 15 on the WB. I shouldn't have taking it out but i did. Idle is max lean still. Just waiting for the tps kit to come in.
