importwarrior
well the car just broke 170,000 miles. i hope to get another 170 out of it. i had a bad exhaust manifold gasket that needed to be replaced.well after cutting 2 thumbs and left middle finger i finally got the gasket on. LOLi bled for a day and a half on the right thumb. all new helicoils, exhaust gasketand turbo down pipe gasket. i had the exhaust manifold resurfaced, just got it allback to gether. never been so quiet. like a new car. AMAZING!i never had this cars turbo spool so fast. it had a huge leak forsure. the bottom half on 2 cylinders was missing on the old gasket.the car was that way since i picked it up. well i just drove around theblock but it is like a new car. i have to retune the MAFT. big smile as it seems to instantly spool the 20G. next front end steering parts including the power steering pump rebuild. Shelby
sounds like my old 96 caravan working right near 300k and still drives like a new one , and block and heads have never been off
TexasQuest
I know what you mean on the exhaust mani leak. When I got my car it had a warped and cracked mani, I put a new, resurfaced one on along with new hardware and gaskets and it spooled much quicker. importwarrior
that is the truth. i only applied pressure and it cut right through the glove and fingers.
ucw458
Try porting that gasket. I wore heavy welding gloves when I did. Stock head exhaust ports are 1.5" diameter. My ported head has 1.75" diameter exhaust ports. I ported the gasket to the head using my drill press and a carbide burr. Once I make my new exhaust mani I can take advantage of the porting. Aman
I desperately need to get my mani ported. I know I'm not the only one who is missing the back stud from my head
importwarrior
just the opening from the exhaust manifold to turbo housing made the biggest difference. i took my girlfriend for a ride and opened it up she was like "Don't...dont do that again." she was totally scared at how fast the car is now.
