Star_V8_Quest Posted March 23, 2006 Report Share Posted March 23, 2006 When i was posting on the reliability thread,i thought about how long my v8 car has been on the road.Anyone that has transplanted a different engine want to comment on how long the swap was done,how many miles you have on it etc.I will start with mine.Car was "Reborn" in 2002 with the 302 AOD platform in it now.I got the car 1 year later with 12k on the build.I have had it close to 3 years now with 36K showing on it.Only problems i have encountered with it was a leaking fuel line at the tank and chasing an annoying charging problem.With the new 100 amp Chevy alt,I think(i hope) i have it fixed.who else?I am curious to find who has the longest daily driven swapped Starquest. smog Posted March 24, 2006 Report Share Posted March 24, 2006 I'l probably get over 10000 miles on my 1jz car after its running within the first year, should be reliable, minus downtime for me modding it. I dont think anyone will have reliability problems unless the engine they put in, or the work they did was crap to begin with. Star_V8_Quest Posted March 24, 2006 Author Report Share Posted March 24, 2006 One of the things my v8 car had to do was be driven daily.I knew on the way home from TN with it,I had a good one.You never know when you geta car with an engine that doesnt belong if that sucker is worth anything.I knew from all of the pics I got of it before I took possession the build was superb.I see alot of "swaps" on these cars and some I wouldnt touch with a 10 foot pole.You cant ghetto the build if you want it to run daily.I will take my daily v8 car over one thats faster but has problems.I know I can take off to CA today and make it back without any problems :wink: Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
DJpowerHaus Posted March 25, 2006 Report Share Posted March 25, 2006 I have at least 15,000 miles on my 4g63 swap. Had to get new transmissions ever 6 months though (about every 5000 miles). No engine troubles until I parked it because the steering was pissing me off and a million other totally not swap related problems started happening (windows not working, steering shaking, crashing into a pickup, letting rain get into the engine bay... etc etc.). Now I cant even get it to start :-/. Swap #2 should be drivable in a little over a month. One day I'll pull the old one into the shop and get it back to where it was last fall (amazingtown).
