  1. Just called and spoke with Kathy (had to ask for her). Was still able to get the $85/night for 2 queens rate, although it was on an upper floor. I think that's all they had left available. She was very friendly on the phone and seemed glad to have us coming. Overall, I'm glad we're going back to the Lodge. Having the garage is worth some of the hassle we've experienced in the past. Been to all of the SQ PF meets since the first one in '99, with the exception of one year - 2000. Was there for just one evening last year due to my hs reunion being on the same weekend. Looking forward to seeing everyone! Grant and I are rooming together, but I'll let him update the list with his name. Trying to get Chris (helraz70) to come as well. 1) Bigjohn--- 4g63 Quest 2) Tsigal----- Quest 3) 19Cturbo-1jiz Starion 4) Tman---- Quest 5)Jewelz6---Scion TC and daughter 6) Olive8 - Moparbishi ...as long as my son's return home goes as planned 7) Wildcatfanatic---Quest with my wife 8) bad2rass-kyle, laura, kevin, dee, & hopefully the starion 9) BoostedQuest89 --- Oh yeah, I'll be there 10) JAinsworth, will be in room 209 11) Coke - MAYBE (possibly attending Kemah instead 12) chris brasher from alabama the whole faMILY WILL BE THERE WIFE,SON,AND DAUGHTER,10/8 YEARS OLD... 13) Ken_B.
  2. Haven't been around much in a while, but I gotta make this meet. Not exactly sure which days I'll be there, yet, but definitely count me in. Posting from my phone, so I can't (easily) copy and paste the list. If someone can add me, that would be great. Thanks and looking forward to seeing everyone! Ken
  3. Just got a room reserved for Chris (helrazr) and I for Thursday and Friday night. We're on the second floor as well, which doesn't bother me since it makes for a better view of the lot. We may stay Saturday night as well depending on who's still there and room availability. Tried to make our reservation online, but it was quoting $86/night + taxes. So I called and talked to Susan and she quoted $78/night as promised. She did not (& would not) take a credit card number, which makes me a little leary. That happened to us at Vacation Lodge one year and they gave my reservation away since I was not there by 4pm (with no warning). Susan did say to call if we weren't going to be there by 5pm, though. Looking forward to seeing everyone. Haven't driven the Quest since PF11. Guess I need to get a fuel pump on her before then... Y'all be safe and see you soon!! Ken B.
  4. Been MIA most of this year doing the Dad thing (and loving every minute of it!). Still can't imagine missing this meet. Hope there are simply just a lot of stragglers like me who haven't signed up yet. Looking forward to seeing everyone, as usual. Would love to see some of the "oldtimers" again this year. 1. 5. Hey guys. It's been a while since I've been on here, but i just found out some disturbing news. A long time SQC club member and personal friend, Jess Nicholas, suffered a heart attack today. He did survive, thank goodness, and evidently he is doing better. Here are some of the related posts from Facebook: Chris Depew - "Please keep Jess Nicholas and Melena McLemore Nicholas in your prayers. Jess had a heart attack Thursday and is recovering in the hospital in Montgomery. They put in a heart stent to open up a blockage and he was awake and talking when I saw him. Still very scary." Melena McLemore Nicholas - "Jess is at Baptist South in CCU for those asking." "I just want to say that I have the most amazing friends. Not only that, but a great support system, and I didn't even know it. I'm truly grateful for that today. One of our friends drove down from Birmingham last night, just to see him, then went back home. Then another came and helped me clean today---well she did 95% of it, and I am so very, very appreciative of that. And, my bestie from home is coming tomorrow to stay. Not counting all the phone calls, texts, messages and posts on FB. We truly are blessed." Please keep Jess in your thoughts and prayers. For those who may not know him, he was an integral part in making the PF meets as successful as they are today. Ken Blalock
  6. Pretty good vid til 0:06... j/k Looks like y'all had a good time.
  7. Hey Terry! You won't believe this, but I was just thinking about you and the PF03 meet. Then I get on here and see your post. Too cool. I forget who it is that you were thinking about with the shop. You can always bring it to the house and I'd be glad to give you a hand if you wanted to do those things yourself. I'm about 45 mins from PF when there's not a lot of traffic. Good luck with the new job. We'll have to get together sometime after you get settled in. Maybe we can even get Ihsan to come out. Ken
  8. I agree with Chip's suggestion to pay off all of the cards and simply keep them for "emergencies" until you build your savings back up. Then I would try to get a card that gives you some kind of reward back as was also suggested. Amazon Visa gives 3% back on Amazon purchases, 2% on food and gas, and 1% on everything else. Discover is 1%, but they have some online retail partners that offer 5-15% back (Home Depot, Lowes, Sears, etc). We charge absolutely everything we can and pay the balance off every month. We do this for the rewards mostly, but it also gives us the power to dispute false or unjust charges. The end of the year statements also give you a clear indication of exactly where you're money is really going. I'm almost ashamed to admit how much we spent on retail last year...
  9. Great post, Josh. I had been thinking about doing something similar just to get an official count. I was figuring there were close to 35 Quests there. At 37, we were just a few from hitting 40. It was a great time, indeed. I'm just kicking myself for leaving Sunday and missing all the action that night. Ken B.
  10. Sorry to hear about your all's troubles. Luckily, mine made it home just fine. Not sure just how long my fuel pump is going to last, but it managed to get me home today. You can add me to that list, though, cause her days are numbered for sure. Thanks again to Jon and Chris for coming to my rescue on Friday night. Steve Dunn - if you see this in time, give me a shout. I've got something for you. Maybe I can give it to you as you pass through Knoxville tomorrow. Had a great time, as usual. It's always a pleasure getting to see new faces and hanging out with everyone. Everyone's cars looked great, too. Would have loved to stay another night, but I had to get back to my lil' man. Can't wait till next year! Ken B.
  11. Love slot cars! Still have a lot of track and cars from when I was a kid. Tyco was always the best. Would really love to see these make a comeback.
  12. BSEE, PE; also agree with Kev. Wherever you end up, they will teach you what you need to know. Having the degree is simply evidence that you can be taught. No matter what the circumstance, I would also be leery of getting a degree from a non-accredited school/program. Good luck whatever you decide! Ken B.
  13. Congratulations! My wife and I had our first child last year (he turns 1 next month). I can honestly say it's the best thing that has ever happened to me. EVERYTHING changes - for the better. I just hope I don't screw up the most important job I've ever had... Nice wedding pics in the other thread, too. Way to go! Ken B.
  14. That was awesome. I could easily see this thread going viral. Since the perp is practically in my back yard, maybe I should go scope it out. My bet is that is not his actual address, but probably a neighbor who is out of town or incapacitated. Scum either way...
