Installed manual seatbelts in my '88, pics galore

Recommended Posts

I spent this weekend installing manual seatbelts in my red '88. The manual seatbelt assemblies were the only parts I needed from a donor car, nothing else! To make this swap look OEM, I only had to modify 1 door trim piece. Here's step-by-step pics of my conversion for now. I'll write up a detailed FAQ sometime later this week.

That's funny, today I started doing that same mod to my car. I had gotten the correct door panels, but not the upper b-pillar trim piece. I cut it to about the same shape you did, but I left enough material to wrap it around the cut so it looks alittle more finished.

Looks clean. :D

I assume you also needed the recever part that attaches to the seat.

My '86 bealts would not work with the '88 receivers.

The manual seat belt cars have a plastic box piece that protects the retractor assembly from moisture inside the door. Did you use that piece?

I guess if you leave the tracks in place you don't need any of the other parts like headliner, etc. It's probably pretty easy to remove that piece that rides along the track so it doesn't hang in the door way.

Good post
