Found a local member willing to trade me an all black hvac control panel from an 86 for my black and chrome button control panel out of my 87. I cant seem to find my answer on google, will it just plug in and work fine or are the connections different? Also does a parts interchangeability list between model year guide exist?

I'm fairly certain it's compatible.  I believe the only difference is the buttons

It bolts in and operates fine, just cant get it to light up when I turn on the headlights. Any ideas on why that could be?

Both bulbs work. The LCD screens functions and everything lights up without having the headlights on. The second I turn the headlights on all the lights on the hvac turn off.
