  1. Thank you pcristquester! That's a fair deal. I'll keep you posted, I may have a rebuild happening before smog. I just need to know that I will be able to get one as I can't find any online.
  2. Anyone have a stock downpipe with the precat so I can get this thing smogged again? I dont care if its gutted, just need it to pass visual inspection. Surely you Californians all have one sitting in a box to be slapped on for one day every two years. Hell, for that matter, I could rent it from you
  3. I just purchased a fender from Mark. He went through the effort of figuring out how to ship such a large package and even built me some custom packaging to get it to me safely. Furthermore, Mark shipped me the fender before I even paid for it! Really a stand-up guy. Would happily do business with him again.
  4. PMed you both. mark, check your messages Thanks for the help guys
  5. Thank you NikoFab. Still hoping for someone semi-local. But I'll keep it in mind
  6. Hello gang, I am in need of a front drivers side fender for a widebody. Got a flatside fender just to let the shop line up the holes as that's all I could find. Not planning to use it though, so if anyone needs it... I can also direct you to the car it came from if that's helpful. I could also use a new airdam if anyone has one. These parts seem ridiculous to ship so I'm hoping there's someone near the Bay Area who can help me out. Also, if anyone has some advice on tracking these parts down it would be appreciated. Thanks guys
  7. I paid about $320 for the kitty installed. Carb legal. So the cat itself was maybe $250? Surely overpaid. I will need atleast a precat housing to get it smogged ever again as someone did me a favor to look the other way. Thanks MrSleepi. We should organize a Bay Area minimeet.
  8. Thanks for the advice. Flushing before dropping the pan makes sense. Man I'm glad to have this site! Do I need a new oil pan gasket before i get started on this? Rotella... Gave it a light googling and couldn't really find out anything meaningful. Care to elaborate?
  9. Thank you for your quick reply Allen! I will add the oil cooler itself to the cleaning list. I hear your concern in regards to setting deposits loose in the engine, in theory the solvent should break those all down to ensure they dont block any small passages, but that may yet be a valid concern. My other minor concern was if the oil flush might have a negative effect on any seals or sensors. I assume the solvent is designed for these applications but I am not expert enough to say that there is nothing special about Starquests that might react negatively to the solvent. Any other input is appreciated.
  10. Joined the Starquest brotherhood recently and am beginning my restoration. Let me propose my next plan so that I can be flamed appropriately if this is unwise. I have some oil leaks that need to be fixed (only seems to leak under load, not dripping much in my parking spot) 1. Clean the underside of the engine to track a leak that appears to be from the rear of the engine. 2. Drain the oil 3. Repair or replace leaky component as necessary 4. Replace turbo oil return (which looks soaked in oil) 5. Rebuild and replace oil cooler lines (also leaky) per Dad's DIY on the subject 6. Drop oil pan and clean out sludge, also look for anything out of place 7. Refill with oil and add oil flush solvent to break up deposits in parts i cant reach 8. Another oil change to complete the flush I did a search for "oil flush" and found nothing. I assume someone will jump in here and tell me why no one is doing one So yeah, a newbie question from a newbie dude. Thanks in advance.
  11. Thank you everyone! Any other Starquesters in my area perchance? I see Carlos is pretty close. The engine... is good in the most important ways (cooling system is in good shape and the head and head gasket are still solid). But as you can imagine I am finding problems in just about every supporting system. So far Ive replaced 26ft of vac line, oh and had to replace the cat for California's ridiculous smog requirements. I have some oil leaks though that will be my next project. Let the fun continue, really
  12. Thank you Allen. I am delving into the myriad maintenance issues. Oil leaks, vac leaks, countless cosmetic issues. For now, keeping her topped with oil and learning not to trust anything the previous owner did. Oh yeah, and trying to ignore its siren song to drive her like a maniac.
  13. The best picture I have at the moment http://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/r613/theshell5519/Starion_zps17bd6c89.jpg[/url]
  14. Hello everyone! I've been lurking for about two months since I bought my Starion, gleaning untold amounts of knowledge from this amazing community. I want to thank you all for the help you've already provided without even knowing it. Anyways, my name is David. I live near San Fran and have not seen another SQ on the road in my area. My car came all the way from Oregon and I know little about its history. Perhaps someone here will know it better than I do. I am one of those "young" owners but let it be known that, like many of you, I have begun my restoration with my limited knowledge and skills and intend to keep this beautiful car for many years to come. I look forward to meeting you all and with your help, making my Starion all it can be. Photos to come once I get on the computer. (Could only find newbie section on mobile site)
