Being an immigrant sometimes really sucks

So today, end up going to go to renew my license since I never did when I as 21. So did my friend. His goes through, smooth, no trouble at all. I had to go back and forth a few times b/c I needed to get all the necessary documents ( that I completely forgot and didn't even think I'd need just to renew )

Get it all said and done, about to go through, and the lady tells me " There's a hold from the USCIS here, and since this is expired, we'll have to take it. Sorry."

 did I just loose my license not knowing why?

Some people think that since I got my license, when the INS became the USCIS that new policies went into effect, one of them being a check to make sure everything is peachy. Still, this pisses me off.

lol... so you can't drive now?

Nope. I have to go back in 3-5 days to find out what the hold is. Really aggravating actually. I don't have anything warranting my license to be taken, and yet it still does due to some stupid immigration unknown hold <_<

Well that's what you get for being born Canadian. Should have thought of that sooner. :confused0024:

Hope it gets cleared up for ya. Don't worry Guantanamo may be closed before you get there. :character0056:

call uscis, they should be able to tell you. Are you on a school visa?

Nope, I'm here on an I-94/H-4 Visa, with a workers permit. It actually says on the SAVE USCIS DDS form to not call USCIS unless I had a Save Verification Fail, which I don't.

yeah, the lady on the phone with USCIS doesn't have a clue as to why the hold is there. It's happened before apparently, something that was implemented when INS merged with Homeland Security causes this - best advice she gave me is either A) wait the 5 days and go back, or B ) make an appointment and go visit my nearest USCIS center to see if they can tell me anything.

And yes, John Candy was a Canadian.

Upon the advice of a mexican, he said check out the DDS site

Well what do you know

"Effective January 1, 2008, Georgia law requires DDS to verify all immigration documents presented by non-citizens through the United States Custom and Immigration Service (USCIS) via a program known as SAVE (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlement.) In most cases, the verification can be completed immediately during the customer’s driver’s license or identification card transaction. In some cases verification may take several days or several weeks. Until the documentation is verified by USCIS, DDS is unable to issue a driver’s license or identification card. If the verification is unsuccessful, the customer will be given a form with instructions and time frames to contact USCIS or return to the Customer Service Center at a later date."
