So I've been driving my SQ as a daily for a few weeks and I'm getting tired of spilling my coffee..... This motivated me to revive my cup holder design project.

What do you all think of the prototype?

The cup holders have rubber inserts in them to accommodate various sizes of drinks and hold them securely.  This design also features a quick release for the cup holder so 1 or both can quickly be removed if you need more leg room.

Open to hear people's thoughts on my design approach:

Here's a 20oz Starbucks in the holder:

Nicest l have seen so far. Gets in the way no matter where you put it though.l like the fact that is removable.

I'd like it in black.  I've attached one to my front ashtray which is ok for smaller drinks.  I've also screwed a retractable one into the top drivers door panel.  That gets in the way of steering at times when it is not retracted.

The aluminum panel generally gets painted black or powder coated.  Since it's integrated into my radio panel design, and there are about 8 different variations, I generally leave the color matching up to the end user.

I have more parts coming to take the design a bit further, then I'll skin it with black CF vinyl and post some updates...... that should also make it more "elegant" ;o)

Maybe I'm wrong but won't those get in the way of shifting if you have a manual transmission? The throw on the shifter isn't insignificant. Not to mention get in the way of your leg.

EDIT: Another thing I noticed was where they sit in reference to the ebrake... looks like it would get in the way of that as well.

Do you have pictures of it installed in the car? At 6'5 I doubt I could use that on both sides but if it were just a passenger side cup holder it might work.
