  1. Do you have the stock stereo still? If so pics, and a price?
  2. Hey guys, I have a new to me 89 Mitsubishi Delica from Japan. The stereo in it isn;t working correctly, and even if it were the FM band isn't the same as North America,so I want to replace the stereo. I also want the stereo to look like it belongs in the van, and not a new modern stereo. I THINK the Starquest stereo should work as I saw one online that had the same dual plugs on the back of it as the stereo in my van. Any help is geatly appreciated. Thanks, Chris
  3. Is there anywhere online that I can get factory Mitsubishi parts at a discount? Also does $5 a piece for head bolts from Mitsubishi sound steep,or is it a decent price? My local NAPA can't get the head bolts, ARP, and Rock Auto does list them. Anywhere else I may find them? Also what is the best timing belt to get? Should I replace the balance shaft belt as well? Any particular brand better for the head gasket?
  4. So I went from bad to worse this afternoon. The seller of the van told me that the person he bought it from had replaced the head gasket. Well my father-in-law was over this afternoon and wanted to see the van. I pulled it out of the garage so he could see it better. When I did this the low oil light was lit. I thought this was odd as I had checked it a week or so ago before getting it registered. When I got it out side I checked the oil and it was low by about a quart and a half or more. I put a couple of quarts of oil in it and didn't give it much ore thought. My father-in-law asked if it burned any oil. I said not that I know of, so he wondered where it was going, and suggested looking at the radiator. When I did the nasty sludge-like tan colored coolant gave me the answer I didn't want to hear. I guess they didn't do that head gasket after all !!! I immediately started tearing into it and have it down to the valve cover and getting the intake manifold off at this point. I am thinking this may get expensive as I will probably do the timing belt and water pump while i am in there as well. Turns out there isn't a thermostat in the housing either just as I expected. Maybe due to the head gasket problem. Anyone have the torque specs of the head, and the procedure to getting the cam gear lined up for the new timing belt,or should I just get a repair manual? What would be the best way to get the oil out of the cooling system? Can I just flush the radiator with a hose or am I best to get it cleaned by a radiator shop? Any help would be much appreciated. Chris
  5. Hey guys, I don't own a StarQuest, but rather a 1990 StarWagon, but I was hoping you guys could help me anyway. I bought the van from CA back in December and got it registered last week. I have since been using it a lot because I love it, but on Saturday I experienced a little trouble. I drove it around all day running little errands and such with no issues even in the cold rain. I then went out to the garage to take it out to play hockey that night around 8 pm after driving it about an hour earlier and it would crank but not start. I tried many times but had the same result. Right around this time I popped the engine cover to have a look and my brother-in-law had just shown up to go with me to play hockey. He said that I should just try it again, so I did and it fired right up. I shut it off and restarted it with no problems. We went to play hockey that night in it and had no issues afterwards when coming home, but once I got it in the garage I shut it off and it wouldn't restart, just turned over without firing. The next morning I went out to the garage and it fired right up. I have since had one more no start condition yesterday afternoon, but eventually it did fire. Coupled with this the van seems to be getting lousy fuel mileage. By that I mean I got a little over 100 miles out of a half tank of fuel(tank is 14 gallons), and that seems low to me for a semi-small 4 cylinder van. My brother-in-law welded the tail-pipe back to the muffler for me on Sunday afternoon, and noted that the van was blowing some black smoke when I fired it up afterwards. Maybe therein lies a problem. I can tell you that since I got the van the temperature gauge hardly moves at all and the van has barely any sort of heat. My thoughts are that maybe the thermostat is either missing or stuck open. Could this cause the ECU to be seeing a cool engine and add more fuel, thus making the gas mileage suffer? Could the no start conditions be somehow related to this or is more likely that it needs a good tune up? I did order the following: Cap,rotor, wires, plugs, air filter, and fuel filter on Sunday from Rockauto, so I should have it soon. How similar is the 2.4 litre engine in my van to the 2.6 in my 83 Sapporo Technica, and the StarQuest? I know the Sapporo is carburated but the block looks very similar. Any help with my problems is much appreciated. Chris 90 StarWagon LS 78 Mazda RX-7 GS 74 Mazda REPU 83 Sapporo Technica coupe Sold
  6. Hey guys, I know I don't technically own a StarQuest but my 1990 StarWagon is fairly close in that it is from the same company and uses a similar engine I believe. I even have a set of StarQuest wheels I just bought for it over the weekend from a forum member that is local to me. I am semi-new to Mitsubishi's as I owned a 1983 Plymouth Sapporo Technica for the past year until getting my van and selling the Sapporo to a friend. I am however not new to Japanese cars as I have owned several over the years and still do. In my garage next to the van is my 79 early-production Mazda RX-7 GS, and my 74 Mazda Rotary-Engine Pickup or REPU for short. I have owned them for many years and plan to keep them for many more. I just figured I would introduce myself before getting on to my questions regarding a few issues I am having with the van. Thanks for having me, Chris
