Some history on the vehicle first.

Previous owner bought the car second hand in 1990. Car was used daily until 2003, when it was parked and sat in the same place until june 2014, when i bought it.

The car is completely stock/standard, with 130k on the clock. Some areas of the vehicle had significant rust damage, which previous owner had a body shop repair. Some repairs were done ok, some not so ok.....not ok repairs will be re-done properly. And there is still more rust damage that needs repairing.

Plans are:

-stripped to a bare shell

-repair body body back to factory condition. Rust repaired and painted to factory paint code.

-full suspension rebuild with all parts powdercoated

-d2 coilovers

-custom willwood brakes

-fuel and bake lines run inside body

-battery relocated to rear

-1uzfe engine swap with w58 gearbox

-nice sound system

Here it shortly after getting it home.

Parts of interior removed for welding rust. Everything removed was supplied with car.

Since you have the 2.0 wide engine there, why don't you just change the head with a VR4 one which are plentiful where you are?

Instead of going through all that trouble with another "foreigh" engine, you know that you can get tons of power and torgue out of an 16v 4g63.

EMS,big turbo and all the fun you want......If not ......since you are doing all this restoration job, change or fabicate a new trans tunnel because you are going to curse a lot with the w58 truck trans and you are surelly at some point going to change to an r154.Same shity shifts but better in most cases.

I would go with the 16v though..

without getting too in depth here....the reasons are with going with a 1uz are its cheaper and I have always wanted a v8 starion. Plus the toyota engines are superior in every way....1uz, 1jz, 2jz

I would think the r154 would fit without modifying the tunnel, as you are going to use the auto bellhousing from the lexus box...the w58 fits without modifying tunnel...and the r154 is slightly fatter....but i could be wrong

I can get an entire lexus ls400 for like 400-500...plus cost of gearbox of course...250 bhp for cheap bascially

if I did the 46g3...then head, turbo, intercooler, piping, custom or magna intake, standalone ,management blah blah....way way more expensive, more hassle.....and thats not even the work needed to be done to the short block, like forged pistons.

Cant say i really care for turbo'd forced induction...i think supercharging will be my route in the end.,.more linear power

I will do the w58 with the 1uz running stock ecu for now. Then later when i have more money get the r154 and build some real power with the 1uz.....

I have so much on my plate right now.....i cant go too crazy with it all at once.

I wish you the best of luck for whatever u choose to do.After all it's your car and you can do whatever makes you happy and bond's you with it.

The r154 won't fit under there without removing the outer prottective trans tunnel skin or without using persuation with a large hummer .

So if you are planning to do such a swap you better do it now and paint or underseal (even better do both)without all the mechanical stuff in your way.

Just my two cents....

I will just have to cross that bridge when I get there. Cant afford to buy an r154 really right now.

The r154 in starions you speak of...those are on the 1jz and 2jz? What about 1uz? I would think the jz engines are longer than 1uz.

right some pics....

front cross member..look at it closely..totally rotten. I cut one out of another starion....but the backside metal was paper thin from rust. i should have paid more attention to it, learned my lesson there. So in the end i couldnt use it...

Looks great and pretty strong will the flatness be a issue being that the original one

had a different angle to it?

its getting a new aluminum rad...plus there wont be any intercooler pipes, oil coolers etc. I will have to mount the bracket that goes from the cross member to the hood catch/release to it somehow.

i think the original member dips down\angled like that to allow more airflow over the radiator....i cant see why else they would design it like that as i wouldnt think it would be that strong.

hopefully getting a 1uzfe from a lexus ls400 on saturday!

in the mean time working on some bits...

ive cut out the flimsy bit of metal that the hood catch bolts to, and also the flimsy sheet metal that the radiator bolted to, and where the intercooler pipes through....really didnt need it.....its just clamped there temporarily with so i can measure...

bascially the new cross member i have made will be boxed in..and this will be the new support for the radiator...

and also the bracket that ran from the hood catch down to the old cross member...which also held the oil cooler will not be used....i will make my own...

so now i have to come up a design....

some things i did a bout a month ago....

i found a bit of rust hiding under the factory dampening tar like junk. So i decided to rip it all out....took forever!

..but worth it. That crap weighs a ton. Its will get replaced with better dampener that weighs a lot less...

http://s11.postimg.org/grqr6holv/20140803_135019.jpg

then i took some mineral spirits, and wiped all the excess off...that was a painfully slow process as well...

http://s27.postimg.org/xzx8nysgz/20140809_184427.jpg

this is why i removed dampener..a rust hole hiding under it...and under what appeared to be good seam sealer....so i fixed the hole and completely removed all the trans tunnel sealer

hole gone!

Nice progress man, can't wait to see what else you do!

thanks...

these next couple weeks will be finishing fixing the rest of the rust..the new cross member and rad support thing i am building, and mocking up the lexus engine...

i think i am going to have a go at mating the strion trans km132 with the 1uz, instead of the w58 supra trans......but will know better once i get the engine
