TexasQuest
Do the 88-89 manual trans have a re-usable o-ring gasket for the waffle trans pan? I have a new cork gasket for the km132 trans but I've heard only the trucks used the cork gasket. Is this true?
techboy
I'm pretty sure thats the case Tex. Both 88-89 trans I've had have the o-ring style gasket on it, not the cork. And, I'm pretty sure I read here once that that gasket is no longer available. Maybe someone else can chime as to whether or not that is true. I reused each of mine. I was very careful to remove it and I didn't really use any chemical cleaners on it for fear of drying it out. I just kinda wiped it off carefully dabbed some Permatex gasket maker (the red transmission fluid stuff) on the corners to hold it in place while I put the waffle back on. Funky Phil
Those get rock hard in a hurry as well. Crumble and snap apart on removal.
scott87star
You can buy o-ring material on McMaster-Carr and make a new one.
Funky Phil
I just went RTV when I could no longer reuse
TexasQuest
Has anyone cross-referenced the o-ring gasket to another brand?
Tyler.quest3666
What kind of RTV did you use and how is it holding up? (No slow leaks)...
TexasQuest
Probably an anerobic gel gasket maker.
ucw458
I used black RTV on mine. Zero leaks after 5 years and counting.
