I AM NOT DEAD. LONG LIVE THE UNICORN!

Recommended Posts

Not sure how long since my last post... more than a year? unknown. Was gone so long that my account was totally out of date. But I have emerged from the great beyond. I have seen things and done stuff. Down the rabbit hole and back again. Big life changes... most all of them good!

It would be impossible for me to post all of the pictures and progress from the build on my car to this forum. So instead I'll provide a link to Japanese Nostalgic Car where I've kept a relatively up-to date build thread. I hope the mods don't mind.

Otherwise, It's been a long, long road... But I've stuck with it and managed to perform a mod or two. Here are the highlihgts.

I also bought a new daily-driver during this time... but I will save the majority of pics of this car for the "others" thread :)

sweet cars man. love the 4g swap. nice mr2 too. Be careful with the mr2 in the corners. from my experience they seem to handle better with 2 people in the car, keep the nose down(braking, downshifting) in a hard corner.

Thanks guys! There's still a lot of work to do. In fact the engine featured in the photos above has since been pulled out of the car and torn down and rebuilt. So I guess this is now technically 4G64 # 2. We fixed a LOT of design problems from the first build and the car should be much much more solid now and make better power as I have also converted the new engine from a reflashed DSM ECU over to full AEM stand-alone for proper dyno tuning. so I'll probably have some numbers to post soon.

lionbull, thanks for the tips with the MR2. I'm pretty sure what you're describing is the dreaded-snap oversteer, or hard tail-out under heavy breaking. the first gen SW20's were notorious for this... but mostly due to pilot error and people not respect the dynamics of driving a mid-engined car. the latter cars 94+ (of which mine is) incorporated some suepsnion geometry changes to alleviate this and trend the car to under-steer in the name of saftey. It can still happen, but you have to push the car much much harder. Still, I see snap-oversteer bite a lot of new MR2 guys so it's something I always respect. :)

Attack Vector. I saw your car at PINA motorsports. Nice car!!!! Andre built the 2.4 wide block thats in my friend Phillip's Starion. We should hook up sometime. Im pretty close to having my car back together again. Hopefully by next weekend. Keeps breaking on the dyno. Funny how when you start making 500 rwhp stuff starts breaking.. :)

Kawika, nice to hear from another local guy! I feel like there are very few of us here in the PNW. Hahah, my car has been at Andre's FOREVER. but he does amazing work so it's worth it in the end. We're going to dyno tune tomorrow (if everything goes well) I'm pushing hard to have the car back in my posession for the Old School Reunion car show in Bothell on June 10th. If you haven't attended one of these, I strongly suggest you go. People would love to see another starquest. I was the only one who showed last year. Also on June 30th there is supposed to be some massive mitsu meet at Yonkers Mitsubishi in Renton. I'll be bringing the Starion to that one also. lmk if you'll be at either of these events and I'll look for you.

So are you 4G swapped also? Or are you making 500hp on MPI? TBI? Has Andre been doing your EFI tuning?

Is Andre that guy right off 167 that does these swaps along with the dash swaps? Kawika took me there before. I'd like to go to these meets. Hopefully I can have my car ready by then.

LOL! Thanks for the update Kawika! Much appreciated =)

Also thanks for the props here guys... It's been a long road. Still a lot of work to go... but this will be a major milestone!

I agree it would be awesome to connect with fellow NW starquesters. How many of us are there? Also is there a regional forum? or is everyone just up on SQC?

it makes me drool. when and where are some washington meets.

The two upcoming big meets that I know of are the Old School Reunion in Bothell on June 10th (This weekend!)

I think you should be able to view their FB event page without signing in? If not lmk and I'll see if they have a website.

http://www.facebook.com/oldschoolreunion

And there is a Mitsubishi meet a Younker Mitsu dealership in Renton on the 30th. The only website I know about with info is their FB event page:

http://www.facebook.com/events/247372068688146/

Otherwise I would be checking websites like Japanesenostalgiccar.com, nw-built.com, importmeet.com, etc... all of these sites have local PNW chapters and there's usually 1 or more events / meetups a week. I'd be attending more of them, but my work schedule is kicking my tail. Working on a big project over here and will be run ragged all summer.

Hmmm... seems like the guys are coming out of hiding now that it's summer. Let's get a meet planned!!

Hahahah! Yeah I've been lurking for far too long... It helps that my car is just about finished. It should be back on the road in a matter of days. Would love to get a meet going! Though I only have one weekend this month where I could pull one off. The weekend of the 16th is open, otherwise everything else is full in June. July and beyond is all clear though (unless work gets in the way which is very possible these days) Also I won't be able to do any camping trips due to a pregnant wife. But otherwise I'm up for meeting anywhere from Bellingham to Portland and potentially beyond as long as it can be done inside of a day.

I'm surprised there aren't any starquest gatherings ever. Seems like there are a decent amount of us up here in the NW? But at the JNC meets and last years Old School Reunion I was always the only Starquest so I just figured there was hardly anyone up here. If I knew about meets I'd show up even if the Starquest was down. I'd just take the 'other woman' =)
