mrvwbug
My main (not the pre-cat) Catalytic converter started glowing tonight. The car kept gasping to stay idling. I won't run very good at all. My question is do I gut this SOB, replace it or go with a straight pipe? I live in Indiana, i want to be within the limits of the law but I also want my car to run right. I have had it with the emission crap and the pre-cat is already gutted some years back. Please let me know your thoughts and a viable solution. Thanks for you assistance. Cheers, SLim Jim
ucw458
I live in CA and don't run cats. Gut it for now if it's melted and put another on when you have to smog it. You may be running rich. Fuel in the exhaust is a good way to kill cats.

mrvwbug
Get this guys. It wasn't the CAT. It was a loose plug wire at the distributor. Uggghhhh. What a pisser man. Always triple check under the hood and assume nothing. Cheers, Slim
ucw458
Check the cat anyway. All that unburnt fuel could have melted it.
mrvwbug
I did. It was fine. The injectors were just cleaned and tested less than 500 miles ago. I need a wideband like yesterday....Eh?
