  1. How much for knock box sent to 95954 (know if it's good)
  2. Haha yeah I was talking to my other friend about it yesterday. We decided it's possible if he coasted in nuetral all the way home. I found out I'll have to wait about 8 weeks before I get my money, so I got plenty of time to research everything. I was a bit surprised no one mentioned subarus. I was looking at a few outbacks and some of the sedans. How are the jettas? Any major issuses on the late 90s early 2000's? Specifically was looking at one of the non turbo'd models I saw on craigslist. I ran across one of the supercharged tbirds (want to say it was a 92/93?). My friend has one, I always loved it, didn't sound like the one I found ran very well though. My ex has a caddy for sale I could probably get for around 2000. She just got rearended in it but it's all good except a dent on the bumper. Only thing wrong with it is that and a broken motor mount. It's got a temp fix on it right now. 126k miles, I'm a bit worried it could s*** out in the next few years and cost an arm and leg to rebuild (not the northstar v8 if my memory serves me right, was a 92 eldorado) pretty bad gas mileage though (25 highway was the best I got in it). A wrangler crossed my mind. I have a 93zj project right now. More of a toy I regret getting. Was a steal though. I don't think I could keep myself from lifting the balls out of another jeep though lol.
  3. I have a few camaro buddies, that want me to get a 2000 ls1 I know of 3-4 for sale in my range in good condition. Hear they're not to fun to work on but of the 3 friends with them they've never broke down (1 has from driving it to s*** lol). My friend claims he gets 42 mpg coming back to Cali from Oregon, sounds way to high to me, gets 27 around town though.
  4. Sweet, thanks guys, will check out the nissans and escort gts. I was leaning towards a yota already but wanted to keep options open for sure. I have a winter vehicle, not road legal but the cops up here don't bother you in the snow. I figure I'm transferring a few hundredmiles from my safety nets, a reliable vehicles a good start
  5. Got about 5k to put on a car, looking for something with a decent mpg (20+) Still fairly fun to drive, doesn't need to be crazy or anything, more importantly will be fairly reliable. I've always driven beaters and I decided to buy something a bit nicer until im out of college. any suggestions on cars to check out?
  6. Was at autozone and couldn't find a replacement, anyone know wt.... that's about? Also thought it was strange that when I accidentally left it unplugged I had a temp reading... Anyways, anyone know where I can get one online maybe?
  7. Finally got the quest out. Still overheating, but it starts and moves now. Gauge gets to 1/2 in about 2 mins of driving. 3/4 after about 15-20 mins. I haven't driven it further, recently. But I have had it shut down (from overheating? will it do that) after about 30. I don't recall the temp gauge being abnormally high, and the radiator wasn't hissing or anything. Thinking I might replace the temp sensor for a better reading. Going to pull the thermo and look at it, flush the radiator, re-check it for being all craptastic on the front/back. Had a few questions, is running all water a bad idea? I know people who do it in the trucks a lot, until winter. No chance of freezing here for a while (trying to save money until next week). Anything else I should be looking at? Water pumps not leaking, how could I test it?
  8. The only thing I've tested as bad so far has been the coil. Everything else I've been told to check has been within specs as far as using my volt meter. Every fusible link, all the charge system, took out every wire to make sure it was clean, free of dirt/grease/rust/wear. The only thing I replaced all willy-nilly was the alternator since I was already down there and had just gotten a pretty new one for free (sure as heck looks a lot nicer, doesn't have that white speckled crap on it the ancient ones do). I'll do the etacs soon it looks like. I realized it's non-opted so for now I'll idle it for a bit see if it won't shut down again. I was told on this forum about a year ago that a redhot turbo was normal after heavy use (When i was driving it'd be about 35 miles uphill a day at 65 mph). I replaced the old turbo since it was shot(something blew through it and destroyed the fins on the fans, new gaskets and stuff too). I'll start checking thermostats too then, perhaps get some of the 160/180 degree ones(w/e the old faq had said, forgot off the top of my head). I pulled the inter-cooler and stuff when an old hose cracked and blew a hole, looked good. All the fans work, look good. My temp gauge has never been high, though if its like any other gauge in the car it's probably wrong lol. As far as guessing, I haven't had any ideas what to even do after all the stuff I've tried, I originally went out today to double check the knockbox, and look to test for error codes, see if I couldn't get any info(didn't get around to it). Was pleasantly surprised when it actually fired up. My theory before it quit starting was maybe it's getting to hot and shutting down, though I don't really know why it might do that, or if it even would. That and it runs fine and just kind of goes out of the blue. The etacs would make sense though I was thinking since it's a crappy battery, something might be draining it just enough to quit running. If you have anything else for me to poke around at let me know. I'm pretty much at a stand still until I find out if it'll keep running or not. Thanks guys, I really appreciate any help =)
  9. after 2 years of replacing bullstinky I think my problem was my battery, let me know if this sounds right to you guys that know what the deal is with the cars i have an 87 that would run for about 30-50 mins and would die (in or out of gear) and would not start for a few hours (could be on a charger, being jumped, tried push starting it once but I don't know if we got it going fast enough. I checked the battery once, bone dry, replaced it (warrantied) started right up. Few drives later same problem. Tested spark, air, gas, everything but the fuel filter and pump so far (was out doing it today) replaced the coil, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, belts, alternator (had a spare figured why not). The coil was bad though didn't seem to matter. anyways, after losing hope and a few months going by it stopped starting at all. I was out checking the knock box when I saw my battery dead, so I took my jeep battery out and it fired right up, could that s*** battery (500 cold cranking amps lol) be my entire problem? My only problem at this point is driving it is the only way I know to test if it's going to die/not start. And since I'll be an hour or so from my house when it finally does it, I'll have to leave it over night (most cars left on the side of the road get ticketed quick). I thought about going around the block for like 2 hours to simulate driving up and down the highway. my other problem is I changed my oil before the last time I drove it and it is now black as it gets. I think that was from it dying and the turbo being red-hot though. Should I replace it and test or run to save a few bucks if it's just going to crap out again (I mean will 50-100 miles even cause any damage)? Thanks a lot guys, realllllly want to get my baby going I've got 1,000 miles out of it since I bought it 2 years ago.
  10. I'll post up some pictures soon. Got some super new bfgoodrich g-force super sports on my rims, looking to sell them. Off my 87 quest (forgot the size, but they're the staggered set). tires have under 1,000 miles, possibly under 500, but want to say closer to 1,000). rims are fine, need a little cleaning, but I might do that before i take pics, we'll see.. can't get this thing sold so it's getting junked but I put 750 into these tires and they have barely any miles on them and still look brand new minus a bit of dirt from the driveway. 750 obo, want this s*** gone, ship how ever you'd like but prefer ups/fedex, usps is a pain in the tail. I'm in norcal, if you'd like to pick them up or i'd deliver for gas money =)
  11. so put the coil in, not starting. I'm going to put the old coil in and see if it will fire up. I suspect its the plug wire since it fits on super loose. I thought it'd fire anyways. Not sure why else it wouldn't work. Just started it maybe a week or 2 ago so it's not just sitting.
  12. Tested the coil(cold) and the inner was 6.5k (specs are 9.4k-12.7k) and the outer tested at 1.9(specs said 1.1-1.38) I'm assuming since it's out of specs warming it to die isn't necessary right? Or should I throw it back on and let it go till it dies? I just don't feel like driving 30miles and letting it die randomly then waiting till the next day to get it home =p But if I must, I must. Also, it has 2 spots where the coil wire goes that are almost burned through it looks like. Pretty black, my dad thought it looked fried too. I price checked with autozone and kragen(only local spots) and they didn't have any v8 coils that are cheaper. I found one for 24, but the one for the car is only 28.
  13. Won't let me change the title =\ Bump! I'm down for trades ladies and gent's Send me some offers =)
  14. I have it unforetunately though it dies after 30-45 minutes of driving, then after 1-2 hours it starts right up and drives fine. Must be gas/computer though as it dies even in gear with Roma, also won't bump start when hot. If you had a way to trailer it I'd drop too $700, sounds like you would give it a good home. Like I mentioned the tires are worth $650
