Hey guys....I can't seem to find the right wire from the ingition to wire for my push button start I want to still have to turn my key to "ON" then use push button...So I guess its just the "start" wire I need to loop into the switch....Can anyone put me in the right direction...Thanks.

I've been using a start switch for a couple years now. Here's I hooked it up using a relay and push button switch.

just follow James pic,, that swt you have is a toy,,don't try to run full solonid power thru it,, it's made to close the circirt on a relay and very little actual load goes thru it,,

the starter solonid can take a good bit of curent to operate , so to be safe a deicate'd power supply from the battery or main power to the swt feed is best to use ,fuse'd of course , a seperate power feed can increase the ign power available from the ign swt to the rest of the system durring starter operation

we do not use a starter relay,,we do how ever have a starter lock out relay,,it works with the oem alarm system,,basicly it opens the starter feed wire so the starter can not be operate'd with the key swt ,,the start signal goes from ign swt directly to the starter in auto and 5 spd cars,,the auto has a neutral start swt loc out , the same signal goes to the main relay and ecu

Ok guys...I'm confused...Jimmy and I tried and can't figure it out...My wires don't match any of our diagrams...I'm not sure whats right....here is a pic of mine...I used the bl/ylw wire...but I don't have a w/b wire....just b/w...I figured James might have been mistaken and this was the wire He was talking about...well...I was wrong..I don't know why I don't have a w/b wire...

Before I soldered my wires I wanted to make sure it was going to work...so I just ran the switch back to the battery to test it...The relay clicks like its supposed to..but when I turn the key to "ON" and try to start it...no click...no start....What do ya'll think? The wires that you see tapped in are for my turbo timer...no this....just so you know.

the blk/yellow wire goes to the starter

the relay must be ground'd on the energizering coil , when you push the button you are grounding the relay coil so the wire off the button goes to ground normaly,,in the diagram the button is connect'd to power supply , and the relay close terminal 86 is ground'd all the time

ok thanks Jimmy, the relay terminal 30 goes to the blk/white,,,

the relay terminal 87 goes to the blk/yellow wire,,

terminal 86 goes to vehicle ground

terminal 85 goes to a batt hot terminal, you can use the blk/white wire or do your own power feed from the batt with an inline fuse

i have no idea why you have the blue wire connect'd , but if mem serves thats the main relay turn on signal wire so the ecu will be activate'd

he said the tapped wires were for his turbo timer not for the ign switch.

boho, you need to have 12v going to one side of your push button, the other side of the push button goes to +12v on your relay switch wire.

http://www.oichan.org/mods/starter/starter26.jpg

that was a pic i found online. so say thats your relay. #86 is coming from your push button, going to your push button would be a 12v acc source that is only hot when you turn your key on. The push button will not have anything to do with the starter wire. From there you need to have a fused 12v supply going to one side of your relay. The relay in the pic would be pin #30. The other side of the relay will be your signal wire to your starter.

so your push button is suppling 12v to the relay to open/close the circuit. the relay has a 12v probably 20-30amp fused power line going to it and the other side goes to your starter.

make sense?

Guys...I had a bad relay...I wired it up like JamesR's diagram....I know that Matt's would work also..but I already had them spliced open and everything.....It works great...I like it....Thanks for all the great info guys..maybe this could go in the FAQ's Jimmy?

Turned out great for me....I like it.
