There is ample clearance around the compressor housing for the coils, they do not touch. The interesting thing about the Ford modular motor coil is that they come in colors. These are obviously blue on an Atlantic Blue car. Black below on my MPI car, they also come in red, yellow, green and more.

I've got about 3000 miles on the car since switching to COP, zero problems. You WILL need some kind of heat shielding from the direct radiation of the turbine, there was a picture a few years back in the MPI section of someone running a COP system without any heat shield and they melted a coil. The 3000 miles have been typical Houston driving; freeways, gridlock, high speed, low speed and lots of heat cycles in summer with the A/C on. Again, zero problems and excellent driveability.

 

There are two coil driver units to choose from, the QuadSpark from DIYautotune and/or an AEM TwinFire CDI box. Either comes all pre-wired with the COP coils and bracket, all you need to do is wire up the spark outputs from your FIP, Megasquirt or AEM ECU. Both the QuadSpark and AEM TwinFire are capable of sequential ignition, only the QuadSpark is capable of wasted spark mode. The AEM unit is a multi-strike CDI and provides the best option for high boost/rich mixtures that high HP motors run.

 

YOU GET

 

The COP bracket with the coils of your choice pre-wired using weatherpak connectors to either the QuadSpark or the AEM TwinFire CDI. Stainless steel button head capscrews to mount the coils and bracket to the valve cover and complete instructions for mounting. The mounting process is actually quite easy, I can check/change plugs in less than five minutes on my MPI car, the four capscrews hold the bracket and the coils securely in place on the plugs. The COP bracket is aluminum, I wouldn't call it polished as I've seen perfect mirrors in aluminum but it is very smooth and reflective as can be seen in the pictures above.

 

YOU NEED

 

An aftermarket ECU. I can mod any FIP or Megasquirt system to run wasted spark or full sequential ignition or you can do it yourself. AEM ECU's capable of spark control have the correct outputs as well. You also need a missing tooth crank trigger for wasted spark or a mighty max distributor (with the crank and cam sensor) for full sequential ignition. IF YOU'RE ALREADY RUNNING A MISSING TOOTH CRANK TRIGGER than you need nothing more. If you want to run sequential ignition then you need some sort of cam signal.

 

WHY YOU'D WANT IT

 

There is a reason that all the OEM's have gone to COP. Reliability and performance spring to mind. There are lots of high HP Starquests running the factory dizzy setup so its not imperative, just a logical upgrade option that offers visual appeal as well.

 

PRICE

 

$390 your choice of coils using the QuadSpark driver. $640 your choice of coils using the AEM TwinFire CDI. I personally run the AEM on my MPI car, its never run better.

This is GREAT! I am glad to see you are still working diligently to offer our community these kinds of high quality products at such a reasonable price!!

 

So i have MPI using MS and my car has a locked dizzy with the CR125 ignition module. If I were to buy the COP, am i going to see a increase in mpg? What sort of power increase would I see, if any? How long do these coils generally last in comparison to the cr125 module and NGK wires? I know you have 3k on your set up but i didnt know if either of the the coils offered in your deal are prone to going bad, like the GM ones I see daily.

I really can't say since I never did any strict before and after tests. I would speculate that there wouldn't be much in the way of MPG increase and the power increase depends upon how much boost you intend to run. The more you plan to push boost the better power you'll get from a dedicated coil system, especially with the sequential multi-strike CDI. As far as maintenance, again i point out that all of the OEM's are using COP, therefore its easier and cheaper to maintain.
