Vacuum Pump Connections

Hi,

With the success of my last, 'where does this connection go' and 'which way does the check valve run' I have yet another conundrum.

The first is the bottom connection on the vacuum pump that faces towards the engin. It goes a couple of inches and then is open. One portion of a diagram says it is a dump, but I cant believe it goes no where but the atmosphere.

The second is where a top connection would be, facing towards the front bumper. There is a line, without the broken nipple in it, but no connection on the pump itself. Should there be a nipple, or is that line going somewhere else?

I have no cruise control, and very weak face vents. Is it time to look at a different vacuum pump, or am I missing something yet again?

Thanks for any help.

The line coming out of the top gets connected to the cruise control vacuum line with a T next to the cruise actuator. The bottom line is left open. A vacuum pump is essentially an air pump. The air it sucks out of the lines has to go somewhere. That's why the bottom line is left open. It's the pump outlet.

Weak output from the dash vents is a different problem. It's most likely a ruptured diaphram in the face/foot actuator. It's on the drivers side of the heater box.

It's the one on the right.

BTW

Thank you for making this thread. Awhile back my cruise control stopped working properly. I hadn't looked into it because the car was under construction. I double checked my vacuum pump before posting above just to verify what I remembered and found the vacuum line had fallen off my pump. That's probably why my cruise control failed. It's blind luck that I found my problem while helping you with yours.

Glad your problem has been fixed! So the bottom line is supposed to vent, and the top is supposed to connect. I guess I need a new vacuum pump, since mine doesn't have a nipple on the side. That is good news on one front, yet not so much on the other.

I figured the vent issue had to do with the diaphragm but still haven't gotten that far yet. I will be running a new vacuum line from the cc to the pump after I get one with a nipple. Small plus, my foam on the inside is still in good shape.

Thanks again for the help.

Before I make the purchase for the new one, thanks Brian, but does anyone have a picture of the other side of the pump? Here is the passenger side view courtesy of starquest.i-x in Prof Quest SOS manuals. Just want to verify how far under the rubber cover the vacuum connection is. Mine is completely flat, even with the rubber off. I need to find the right socket to get it unbolted, but while I looked, I figured I would toss this out to the internet sphere.

The bolt connection perfectly blocks it in this picture, so unfortunate. I also need to organize the sockets again.

The connection is very recessed, like flush. Should have gotten a picture to help future people, but the bottom mounting bolt is 10mm and the top is 12. Got mine reconnected, just have to go for a test drive to see if it works. Thanks for the help again everyone!
