  1. Yeah I will be glad to share info, might make things easier as we go along. I have been a ford guy a long time and love the 5.0, I want that open exhaust sound, dang it sounds good. I work on it some in the evenings as I can, the weekends are all day long. I hope to have the 2.6 out this weekend if I can, I am working on the wiring harness in my den, trying to get all the wires I need, I have to get a camera this weekend so I can update mine. I will keep in touch, have fun. Joe.
  2. Yeah, I already have the engine and trans almost ready, some details to finish. I am going with the FI on the 5.0. I got the engine out of a F150, I already have a GT intake and plenum and a set of headers. The electrical is another "fun" part of this, since I am going with the FI. I know that the motor mounts and trans mounts will require some fabbing. As soon as I get the time, I should be pulling the 2.6 out and getting rid of all the hoses and wires that I wont need. I work on it in the evenings as much as I can, but you know how that goes. I am excited to see it all come together one day, its a slow process between working and working on the car. I just keep thinking of the day I get it out on the road and hear that 5.0 roar down the road.
  3. Looking good, I am doing the 5.0 swap. I haven't pulled the Starion motor yet, but I will when I get the time.
  4. A friend of mine is big into mustangs and he said that this motor is a flat tappet non roller motor. This is fine for me. I just want that V8 sound and performance(although, not like a GT, but fine for me). I am keeping my 2.6 in case I decide to rebuild it later on, when I get the money. I have the harness out of the truck and separating the wires that I don't need. This is a fun job!! Its amazing that there is only four plugs that go to the ford motor. It still a mess, but one that I can handle. Did you guys keep the ford alternator or use the Mitsubishi one, I thought about using the fords. What about the ecu and wiring harness for the Mitsubishi, did you take it out and replaced it with the fords? The ford engine is getting a much needed cleaning, lots of grime and some fresh ford blue paint. I have a front hump oil pan and gasket that I got for free, its getting a nice coat of paint also. I hope to have the Mitsubishi engine out this weekend, if things go as planned. I will update with pictures as my camera jumped off the truck when I was taking the motor out, smash, little pieces everywhere....lol.
  5. Thats good info Tim. I will keep that, I might have to go that route when I get it that far along.
  6. Thanks Tim, you know what I am doing, I guess no one else does. I aint ruining anything, like Tim said to be different. Anyway, I have the 5.0 out and cleaning it up, lots of road grime on it. Time to get the electrial wiring out of the truck. Once I do that, the starion is next. I will update with pics as I progress along.
  7. Yeah I knew that already. I have a GT intake and a set of GT headers for the motor. I just want that V8 sound and torque. This will be a daily so I wont be racing it, so I aint worried about the performance. If all goes well, I might do some upgrades on the engine when I have it out, just have to see how the money goes on this project.
  8. Well I have just started my swap. I just picked up the truck and parts. I am ready to take it all apart and get this engine out. I will update as I progress along. I have a few pictures attached, of the truck.
  9. Those look good, I will see what I can do, if I can make the starion work for me. I dont have that amount right now, but if I run inot problems , I guess I could. I have started another thread. I have just gotten my engine and have started taking out the motor. I have alot to do, so I just wanted to give you guys a heads up. Let me know what you think, since you have already been this route. Thanks for the advise guys, hope I can have as much fun as you did, when you started yours.
  10. I need a front air dam for a good price. I have an 86 widebody that needs one, it looks weird without it. I would like a decent shape one or one that I can try to make a mold of it, for replacements. A friend of mine told me that I could make a mold and make it out of fiberglass. I would be willing to try that and see how that goes. My zip for shipping stuff is 27055.
  11. Hey Tim, I just saw your install pictures, what a sweet looking engine. Do you have any more pics of the engine mount. I had seen another mount that had the engine farther ahead with some sort of bracket. I like the fact the you used the existing mounts, but I am not sure about the hole cut to get them in, it should be fine though. Let me know.
  12. I will have to see once I get into it. Is the Mitsu a push type, and the ford a pull type? I guess once I get into it I will see, and try to figure something out. I will be pulling the 302 out tomorrow, hopefully by tomorrow night. Then I will see what I have to work with. How far along are you guys with the swap? I have my camera all charged up, everything I take off will be photographed, even the electrical connections. What did you guys fab up for the engine mounts, I would love to see the different types that got used on something like this. Thanks guys.
  13. Sounds like great advise. I wanted to use the stock gauges, but looks like that may be a problem. I will look around for some gauges after I get the motor in. I will take lots of pictures, cos I know that there are people thinking of doing this and they want to see everything that goes into it. I have a t5 and all that, the only thing I have to buy at the moment is a flywheel, since the motor is with an auto trans. If all goes well, I hope to have the motor sitting in the car, not getting ahead of myself. I dont want to get jinx'd before I get started, lol. I cant wait to get started, two more days......
  14. I have seen those links before, that is what got me to this point. I was wondering if I use the wiring harness and stuff from the donor car, what other things I will need to get the wiring done, like the speedo, tach, temp gauge and so on. I will be keeping the FI from the donor car and I have the wiring harness and all of the dash gauges and stuff pertaining to the engine, just needing a little more info on the actual wiring for all of the gauges and interior stuff. As a note, can I keep the stock exhaust manifolds, it looks like they are close to the block, hopefully they will clear the steering shaft, I haven't tested the fit yet, but maybe this weekend, I can lower the 5.0 into the car and see what I have so far.
