So finally the clutch in my car give into the torque it makes. Ive bein looking into a new clutch set up. ACT makes a clutch rated for 600wtq. Ive used act clutches before in other cars mainly dsm's.

I remember someone on here or the assuie forum talking using a rx7 turboll clutch. I have found they make alot more clutch kits that hold up to 1000wtq. Most are twin and three disc setups. I would like to use a twin disc set up. Question is, can I use a rx7 clutch/flywheel twin disc

If anyone has any information or knowledge of someone using one let me know

Orielys compatability chart says 87-91 RX7 and 2008-2011 RX8 use the same pressure plate and clutch disk as the 240mm 88-89 SQ. But they use different flywheels. You can always ask them if they will drill a SQ flywheel for a RX7/RX8 twin disc clutch.

Just checked out the group clutch kits. The stage 4 is only rated for 475wtq. I make more then that now, and shotting for 600wtq plus

Only thing I need to find out if the ring gear is the same size. Im tring to find a rx7 flywheel local

rx7 flywheel attached with one single bigazz nut. Not sure how that'll affect your plans

No "clutch house" near you ? Normally they have simple solutions for reasonable cost

For years I watched full street 1.8L corollas fling their front end up in the air launching, on custom singles

I didn't know that Jinx. Never messed with rotarys before. If that is the case how the rx7 flywheel attached. I found a ACT MS1-XXG6 thats rated for 625tq. And ill buy another fidanza flywheel. Ive cound the act kit for $ 550 and the fidanza for $300 or less

I found ACT Xtreme to be an awesome clutch for holding anything I gave it, and while the stiffest pedal by far I've ever used, it was very streetable using the full face street disk if you have strong leg control. I do NOT recommend letting a smaller woman drive that clutch, nor did I ever. Not sexist, but seriously - that pedal is tough & an on/off engagement with that power = trouble.

I'm running a $100 ebay 6 puck clutch set. So far it has held 300hp. There were problems with my build last time I was at the tuners that I didn't know about till I was on the dyno so it never got past the 300 mark. We were still in the early stages of working out the glitches in the EMS-4. As soon as I get some cash saved up I'm going back to get the car tuned and we will see how much that cheap clutch can hold.

The ACT Maxx Extreme is the highest capacity single disc available for starquests (specifically) I don't know about any RX7/8 clutches, but it held everything I could throw at it, and the next owner dyno'd it even higher. As far as I know, it still hasn't slipped. It's a sprung 6 puck. It was really heavy underfoot too, so bear that in mind. The SPEC 3+ I had for a while would not hold its rated capacity. My previous ACT held 60 ft/lbs more than it's rated capacity.

Maybe you want to look at a custom twin disc setup? Choose the right transmission first though.

I had the ACT 6 puck it was a great clutch just had an on/off personality which was expected. Just changed to the XAT Twin plate setup, I'll let you know how it goes. You have to get a movement alteration kit though.

Well after talking with some friends, im thinking just go with the maxx extreme ACT. The trans still shifts good so ill see how far it will take me. If and when I lose the trans to power.... big changes are coming. The 2.6 as much as I love it wont take me to the power level I want, 750-850hp. I already started getting parts for that project, but I sold the roller. I want auto, AC, and more power then ill ever need.

One has to be "nice" to a starquest 5spd for it to last behind that kinda torque... like no slicks ?

What recipee for 600 ft-lbs.... spray ?

what "auto" u plan to use ? Couldn't u put that behind the 54 ? Would make a unique street SQ

I made 505wtq with tiny injectors and a broken junk exh manifold. Plus the car was never tuned. I know the g54 can and will make 600 plus wheel torque. 30psi of boost is just coming into the sweet spot for the hx40. I may take it up too 40psi. And if that dont do it, I can back the boost back and run a plate behind the throttle body.

NNever ran slicks. Car just spins the tires. I do shift hard when driving the car hard. But that is only a 2nd to 4th pull maybe once a month. Otherwise the boost is at 17psi and I drive the car as a DD. It will still spin at 17psi, but nothing like 30psi. I have the suspension to keep wheel hop down so im not to worried about that.

Mike bite your tung brother. That crystal ball could be your car! Its only a matter when, no if's

Good thing your spinning. Ive had 2 3rd gears grenade mid-pull, and 3 2nd gear explosions. All that with much less tq than youve got. Edited by Funky Phil
