During the ongoing restoration process of my Starion I discovered the mounted screw inside my union block was sheared off.  I also discovered upon doing a search on here, no one has them or wants to sell them, nor are they available anymore (of course).  So, upon recommendation from a fellow member on here, I purchased the union block pictured below online.  When it showed up at my house I quickly discovered it was way bigger than the stock one.

Not the mention the mounted bolt inside is so big the fusible link doesn't even come close to fitting.

Posted Image

So, I did what I should have done in the first place, I sat down at the computer and drew my own.

Here it is with a new battery fusible link mounted to it I picked up from DAD.

I wish there was some way easily to make the lid hinged like the OEM one, but my thought was I can just hold it together with a pass or two of electrical tape.  I wouldn't want to wrap it totally enclosed b/c I've read the fusible links can get warm.  Another possibility I guess is no top piece at all.

Now, the reason I'm posting this up ... really two things:
1 - Do you guys think this will work?  Feedback? Like I said, I've read the fusible links can get warm. I'm not interested in the smell of melting plastic coming from the engine bay.

2  - I've purchased enough plastic and hardware that I can probably make 10 - 15 of these for starters.  Would people be interested in them?  This is just a prototype, the final version would be black plastic.

Ive seen that picture before over on Starquest forums, but where do you get that piece? Who makes it? I've done a lot of searching on Google and haven't come across it.

I already purchased hardware and plastic, so I'm gonna try my hand at making a bunch.  I'm gonna add a fillet to all the edges to round things off.  We'll see how they come out.

That's the only downside ... it just sets on and then I was gonna wrap it with electrical tape or a zip tie (I haven't installed one yet to try it yet, but I will). If I 3d printed them I could probably work a hinge in there.

I've had these done for a while now, I was just waiting for a decent day to drop the battery back in my car, hook one up and take it for a test spin.  Here's how the final product came out compared to my broken original OEM one.

And here's what is looks like installed.  I zip tied it exactly where the OEM one was.

Posted Image

Wrapped a piece of electrical tape around it to hold the top in place.

For those that might consider wrapping this in electrical tape Aman PM'd me this information:

They sell this mystical self-fusing silicone tape that would be awesome for this application if you don't like the sticky goo electrical tape leaves behind. There's some in the painters tape section of my walmart, and I also picked some up at lowes once. Disclaimer: You'll never use electrical tape again. It's perfect for wrapping any harness you've made, it's good for insulation of course, and whatever else you can think of. It's what I'm going to use.

Armani23 PM'd me about these.  I'm sold out right now, but I'm going to run a new batch next week.  If anyone else is interested in these I should have them for sale again soon.
