  1. haha no cop no. Just someone coming to work late on the weekend.....Good news, i moved some stuff around in my new garage and i think i can fit 4 more motorcycles and still have plenty of room to walk! Its just a tough thing cause i hate to see the car sit. Ill probably revive this thread every year but for now its safe under covers in the corner....My main problem is that I am a designer by trade. I love to design parts. I just dont want to hack this car up. i still think there is a lot i can do to it though. Ill make it stop and turn well before worrying about the rest of it. it will still be probably 5 years until i can get any time to work on it but thats just how it will have to be. Ill drain the tank one of these weekends. Even though the motor has a knock ill keep it so it can start and move around for now. it does make a sweet sound on the road! who needs a stereo! http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj39/shift1313/Starion/th_secondaccel.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj39/shift1313/Starion/th_harding.jpg
  2. yeah i did that the last time.... New crank, flushed everything, oil cooler and lines flushed with air, oil, air again. new oil pump, new crank etc. the next one will be all new parts. The first time it happened i just threw new rod bearings on and let it eat for 100miles til i could pull the motor. trust me i never want to hear the "knock knock" again:) ive got a completely separate motor for the next build if it happens.
  3. mine was bone stock when i got it but being young and eager i stripped the engine bay down:) Only thing i really regret was cutting open the airbox. I just hated the clutter in the bay, plus lots of dry vac lines and stuff that didnt work right. I am lucky enough to be the 2nd owner and the first one to mod it. I kept everything from the heat shields, rabs, smog, ac etc that i took off so it could go back to stock.
  4. Update. I did buy a house and move. I drove the car to the new house(only a mile). It started and ran fine(aside from the rod knock). With the car, bikes and all the parts its really tight in my 2 car garage Im at that cross road again. I love this car but realistically it will be probably 5+ years before i can really work on it again. And now that im in a smaller garage i really dont have the space to work on it. What do you guys think? Let it sit another x amount of years just getting fired up every now and then to move oil around, or sell it to someone that will actually get it on the road and enjoy it. If it was any other car it would have been gone a long time ago, i just find it so hard to let this one go. I need a reality check:) It needs another motor built, of which i have a spare good block and rotating assembly. And it needs some rust repair and paint. Suspension bushing etc all need attention too since its been really off the road since the late 90s at this point. Mechanically its great except the rod knock. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7335/10547332276_f9265771a9_b.jpg
  5. No worries on my end. It will probably be 10 more years before i restore mine:) Time flies when you are too busy...
  6. and holy signature batman. please shrink that image down. listen to these guys and clean those contacts. all of them
  7. its the same for both lhd and rhd cars i believe, if thats what you are after, but some holes werent cut, but dimples are there.. Mine has the ABS removed and no heat shields so i can get in pretty close if you need detail on something. My 84 was purchase(have the msrp and deliver) in late 83 so it should be early. old pic. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj39/shift1313/Starion/downpipe.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj39/shift1313/Starion/Apr1001.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj39/shift1313/Starion/frontend.jpg
  8. wheels look good. Not my style for this car but i do like them. I also agree that the tires are too low. Needs more sidewall, even with a lower. If you are going to run such a low profile tire you really need 17 or 18's on this car. The car in the image looks like it has 16x9 rears and 16x8 fronts with probably some 225x45 fronts and 245x40 rears.. are those 16s?
  9. check the group buy section. good parts arent cheap. there are a few ways to do it but all of them involve modifying your stock lowers in one way or another. And don't take this the wrong way, but after all the trouble you have had with your car and all the stuff you have had to replace, i would hold off on lowering it until you are sure its tip top:) Trust me i have been in the same position where i think its running good, spend x amount on some hop up parts, 200miles later something is wrong. just saying.
  10. I dont think its more than drilling the shaft and some filling of the slot to mount the thing but i understand. I dont think ive seen another CAS modded for a starion so unfortunately its a SOLO type thing.
  11. i can take the top off to show you the inside of it if you want. I do not have the connector that plugs into this either. Well i might have one somewhere but i think its easy enough to find. Let me know
  12. Nope. Its not a new distributor. Its a CAS off some other mits that i started to hack up to fit the starion head. I took the main shaft from a stock distributor and modified the CAS housing to hold the bearings/shaft and also have an oring grove to seal to our heads. The make the CAS housing fit it will need a small bit more modification to the slots for the head stud. The slot is slightly off for where it needs to be. The shaft needs to be drilled for a roll pin for the gear as well. There is a hole in the shaft(since its the OEM dist shaft) but its not in the right spot. I marked it but never drilled it. I believe this CAS originally came off a 4g63 eclispse but don't know for sure. here is a good reference about CAS and using it on other cars with MS ecu's. I originally(and i might build one again or keep this one if you/nobody wants it) was going to do an MS/mpi car as well and clearing the room there was big. I think its a great option for MS cars but its not a direct bolt on deal for our cars because of the distance to the cam. Another consideration might be some bracing for the shaft. The stock Dist has casting all the way to the gear, this setup now is a free hanging shaft. One thing i thought about was welding a shaft onto the housing with a bushing in the end. So as I said its not a direct bolt on deal just yet but ive already modified a good bit of it on a lathe to accept the bearing from the starion Dizzy and an oring to seal to the head. http://forums.turbob...ad.php?t=224740 Here are a few more pics on a scrap head. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj39/shift1313/Starion/PB250025.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj39/shift1313/Starion/PB250023.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj39/shift1313/Starion/PB250021.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj39/shift1313/Starion/PB250020.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj39/shift1313/Starion/CasDizzy3.jpg http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj39/shift1313/Starion/CasDizzy2.jpg
  13. Actually there was an HKS rally car. HKS made DOHC heads and custom pistons, internals and so on for their 4wd rally car. There wasn't an OEM HKS starion no, but there are HKS starions. The one in the link is nothing special http://groupbrally.com/old/images/mitsubishi/hks4wd/hks1.jpg http://groupbrally.com/?page_id=29
  14. No nick its a project. I built a megasquirt for this car years ago and wanted to control the ignition as well. Instead of running the ford edis stuff i was looking for other options. This optical pickup will not work in place of the OEM dizzy. The idea was to have a signal for an aftermarket ECU.
  15. if you only hear it on decel it doesnt seem like it would be a fluid issue. The pump is on the input shaft. Do you feel the vibration through the shifter? Can you explain it a bit more? there are lots of heat shields and things like that in that area that could have been damaged during install and be making noise. Does it make the same sound in every gear? RPM based?
