  2. What brought you out here to SLC Ken? Good to hear the ol' girl made the drive here and back without issue. Sometimes its' the simple things we overlook that cause us the most heartache.
  3. Drifting an auto SQ? Dunno, never seen it done. Drifting an auto-equipped car of another manufacturer? Done it numerous times in LS400s, a Cressida, couple Mustangs, and an F150. And no, it wasn't any of that F&F parking lot "Look I can slide around a parking planter!" bullstinky, it was a full-day track event and was done in a friend's Cressida. The secret? Come in hot, e-brake, get on the power and manage weight transfer. I strung together the entire course on the 3rd try. It takes a bit of effort and a little ingenuity to get past not being able to clutch-kick, but once you get it, its' fun. By the end of the day I wasn't even using the e-brake for initiation.

  6. Dan is hilarious in person, great guy. I really miss the people and the scene down there. From what I recall Dan saying about the Termi, no matter what he did or what changes they made to the rear suspension, if you even thought about lifting the throttle it would straighten back out. Garbage tires, sticky tires, positive or negative camber, extreme toe angles, it just wanted to push too hard if you weren't flat-out all the time. The power was simple, just a bigger pulley, bigger a2w cooler, and a Kenne Bell Boost-A-Pump wired in. They had the entire Maximum Motorsports catalog under that car [the stuff under that car is what steered me toward SN95 stuff in my Starion]. If I remember right, Jim Guthrie's boy [Jim owns Car Crafters] picked up the Cobra at auction for dirt cheap, fixed some body and front end damage and tried it out, then they built the car into the monster it ended up being after the LSx FD got trashed. I've still got videos on my phone from a few events out at then Sandia Speedway [now Napa Speedway] when the Cobra had just finished being built. The sound is intense.
  7. I'm going to try to make it out. Even if I do, it won't be in the Starion this time around, just too much needed with such a tight deadline.
  8. That cluster pains me every time I see it. Came from my '85 flatty after the guys I sold it to turned it into a LeMons monstrosity [and not the good kind]. I'm kicking myself for letting it go.
  9. This is too awesome. I've got an old laptop like that as well, Windows 3.1 installed on it. I remember my old man's first rig, x386 that ran 8MHz, 16 in TURBO! lol. Dual-booted between DOS 5.0 and Win3.1. I think the desk phone at work houses more processing power than that computer.
  10. I like the idea, can't wait to see what you come up with. I've been looking into a different rear subframe/driveline for my Staz, and J30/Q45 stuff [near identical to S14] is abundant at the junkyard I work at. It was either that or an 8.8 IRS from a T-bird or Lincoln, but I don't really want to deal with the bolt-pattern change. I understand how it can be seen as a 'downgrade', as the OEM stuff is pretty robust, but it simply boils down to lack of replacement parts. There are NO new axles, remans are hard enough to come by, and I haven't been able to find an LSD rebuild kit or any parts for the last 3 years. I can buy a quality, used clutch-type for an R200 locally for around $400, reman axles are $65 each in-stock, and aftermarket arms/bushings are dirt cheap thanks to S-chassis being the hot s*** right now. My personal view is that I'd rather modify a subframe to bolt into my car and use cheap, available components. A fair majority of V8 S-chassis guys are running welded diffs on stock rear-end components well into the 450whp range with minimal failures [note I didn't say they were necessarily competitive]. I would trust it, at least the abuse I'd put it through.

  12. Their site is bookmarked at work, and is always open on a tab - their interchange works better than the system we pay for! I can rebuild the front end of my Volvo for under $150, which is unheard of comparing to local prices. Not to mention the dash mat selection is rocking.
