What does it take to make a Magna work on our motors?

It gets asked often :

 

"what is different about the magna that requires modification"?.

 

Here is what I do to the magnas:

 

1- move stat housing to stock U.S. spec location

2- remove (grind off) the old housing and weld it up

3- add water port for the heater core between #3 and #4

4- add brake booster port on #4

5- drill/tap port for coolant temp sensor

6- resize old pipe nipple on new stat housing for 2nd temp sensor

7- resize (weld in) rear water port between #3 and 4

8- cut off and cap old TB flange

9- cut and weld new TB flange in for mustang TB

10- weld of throttle bracket

11- drill/tap ports for map sensor and boost/vac items (gages/FPR/bov etc)

 

This is what Glen did/does:

 

1- move stat housing to stock US spec location

2- cap only* the old housing

3- add water port for the heater core between #3 and #4

5- drill/tap port for coolant temp sensor

7- resize (weld in) rear water port between #3 and 4 (or he sends an adapter plate)

8- cut off and cap old TB flange

9- cut and weld new TB flange in for mustang TB

 

 

It would take a skilled first timer about 5 hours to do my mods, and about 3-1/2 hours to do the Glen modifications. If you have a good fab shop, you can use these hours for estimiating cost of moficication. If you do not have a good selection of metal working shop tools, it will take conciderably longer, but is still totaly do-able. This will require TIG welding, MIG won't cut it, it tends to be a pourous weld (will leak coolant) when workign with cast aluminum. I make all my flanges, brackets and bungs. This is all basic fabrication, no tricks or special knowledge.
