Head off electrical gremlins

As with any car over 10 years old the C/S are prone to some common electrical "issues".

Here are some main problems and how to fix them.  This FAQ is more to repair or prevent problems than it is to troubleshoot them.

Area of concern #1....

The fusible links next to the battery.  These links will corrode and burn out or loose conductivity over time.  Replacing the fried ones and cleaning up the dirty ones will head off future troubles.  There are two sets of links.  The first set is right next to the battery on the drivers side fender.  The second is actually behind the black plate the first set is mounted on.   To clean up the links use an emery cloth, nailfile sandpaper or any abrasive.  You may also want to coat the cleaned contacts with a light coating of anti corrosive jelly or bulb grease.  Any parts store should have some.

Area of problem #2.... Main link coming from the battery.

If you look at your positive feed coming from the battery you will see a few lines.  One wire will be slightly smaller than the rest and will have a black plastic box about 1.5" long around it.  This is one of the main links which supply power to a great deal of your cars electrical systems.  Check the link and replace if needed.

Area #3.....  The rear hatch...  Inside the liftgate supports there are "tabs" which connect with each other when the hatch is closed.  The collar is on the upper portion and the tabs are on the lower.  Frequently the tabs will become corroded or broken.

If this happens your center brakelght and rear wiper will cease to function.  Check and clean the tabs as needed.  If that doesn't help check the allignment of your hatch.  Does the center section of the spoiler stick out farther than the side pieces?  If so then you need to re-allign the hatch.
