RESTORE IT - DONT CRUSH IT!

Thanks moderators for creating the restoration forum.

For anyone out there debating parting out vs. restoring a StarQuest, please RESTORE IT. There are plenty of parts and resources availble on-line now a days.

Hell, in 1995 I brought my 89 back from the grave with zero resources on the interent. Restoration should be a piece of cake with the advent of a StarQuest community on the net.

Need some motivation.. Here you go!

I live in CT and work at a BMW dealer where everyone here makes fun of my car and tells me to get rid of it/crush it. I love this car- 88 Starion w/82k miles and will have it forever, but Ive noticed that in the last month it has been rusting a lot. It has a growing hole on the r/r front part of the wheel well and a developing large rust spot-apparently from the inside out on the right side rear well. The drivers front frame rail is also corooded from years of a leaking master cyl. My question is this: I have no garage and the body shops here are demanding a fortune to do any work on my car. What can I do? Should I remove the rust w/ a Dremel and cover it w/Rustolium until I can save (about five years lol) money? Help!!!

Your car looks amazing...damn I wish I had a garage

I would cut out the origninal metal and look for someone parting out a wrecker and have them cut out their metal out and send it to you....

I have an 86 Starion parts car that I could cut for you. If you could post some pics of your damage, I could see if I can come up with some replacement panels.

You may also try another user here "Kreal" he may be able to help you too.

Can I ask you how you got the frame straight enough to be driven again? I've got a badly wrecked 88 and had reams of restoring it but threw them to the wind, until I saw your pictures. I mean holy s***. That's crazy. Hope I can do the same one day, but I need to make room for the coming 87. Hoping to "store it at the local yard until time/finances/storage provide a way to fix her.

I had the frame pulled and put back together by a local aligment/body shop.

The car drives as straight as an arrow and rides like new....

As far as rust.... No problems, I've never drivin it in the winter and rarely drove it in the rain.

Mind if I ask how expensive I'm running going that route?

Hahahaha!!!

If you weren't so far away I'd take it.  But I was originally thinking cutting the frame along the weld points in front of the window glass. Then finding one that is in ill repair or headed to the scrap yard and do the same. But I can't find one. Do you know of one where this would be an option? It was my aunt's car and she always wanted to fix it and I'd love to fix it, build it back to stock and give it back to her. But my hopes are dwindling because if I don't get the front end soon... it's got to go. I've got about a month.
