2002 BMW M3 SMG Convertible

Well guys, we were looking for a fun car for my wife. We flirted with a few different ideas but then this baby landed right in my lap. She's in great condition inside and out. Only 89000 miles with the 100K service already performed...pretty good for an eleven year old car.

Tires are brand new (still have the inventory print on them), The Harmon Kardon sound system has been upgraded with a Rockford Fosgate powering an Alchemy Air 12" sub, and it has quite a few other bells and whistles.

This is our favorite generation of the 3-Series (the E46 platform), built from 2000 to 2004. The powerplant is BMW's amazing 3.2L S54 M-Tuned engine, which redlines at 8000rpm. Rifling through all six gears is accomplished through the Getrag SMG 6-speed tranmission and its electrohydraulically actuated clutch pedal. Shifts are made via either the SMG shift knob or the steering wheel mounted paddle shifters (whichever tickles your fancy).

All this for $2400 LESS than blue book value. I think I'll stop smiling sometime next year. :D

Performance stats courtesy of Car and Driver Magazine:

333bhp

262lb ft torque

0-60 in 5.1 seconds

1/4 mile in 13.7 @ 104pmh

Skidpad 0.86g

Man wish i could get a deal to drop in my lap that clean.

I would nevet had guess 2002 that is really clean and well kept.

Thanks Randy. We flew up to Dallas today to take ownership. The drive back to Houston was awesome...sunny and in the upper 60's the whole way...needless to say we went topless. The car is every bit as nice as in the photos. The only things I could find wrong was a small hairline scratch on the front left quarter (really had to look for it), and a small chip in the paint on one corner of the gas cap panel.

This car is amazing. A guy in a 370Z decided he wanted to play...I wanted to ask him if he memorized my rear temporary tag...since that was what he was looking at...at least until he couldn't see it anymore. :D It shocked me how bad I beat him, cause the performance numbers for each car is about the same. But my curb weight is almost 200 lbs more, and we had two people in the BMW versus just him in his...can't figure this one out.

I test drove a new Z last month... I was not impressed. No power til about 6k, weird clutch, and about 6 billion e nannies. The one I took for a spin was a track model, but not a NISMO. Your friend there was probably driving with all the nannies on and shifting too early.

I do love the BMW, I looked real hard for one like that around when I was buying my quest, but I couldn't find a manual transmission car with 2 doors. I always did like them, but I guess it's a good thing I found my quest : P

I can see where the nannies could make a driver look inept...maybe that's what happened.

We were also looking for a two door manual, but they are hard to find. Then this thing literally came out of nowhere...M3, convertible, and SMG...couldn't pass it up!

  • 7 months later...

So I walked out of work the other morning to find this...

And about thirty seconds later found this...

I found out the following day that it was an employee that I had terminated. Needless to say my wife was pissed...we just bought this car for her in November. Anyway, I contacted his wife (perfect move in hindsight). Replacements from BMW run $846.00 not including the mirror glass and without paint match. Soooooo, we're just taking it as the catalyst to do some things to the car that I've been thinking about. So I've found an aftermarket upgrade of power folding mirrors (which the former employee's wife has paid me for) that we're going to finish in flat black. Of course this means it's time to go ahead and finish the kidney beans, wheels, hood trim, etc. in flat black as well. I think it's going to look pretty sick.

So I removed the broken mirrors today...and I have to say that BMW's really are built well.
