Hey everyone,

I saw a post on the forum about production numbers by model year and make/model,  but I was wondering if anyone has ever found any data about production numbers based on paint color. I understand certain colors are very rare and was wondering what colors those are, I think it'd be cool to have a bit more about the history/rarity of our cars since you don't see many these days!

If I remember correctly from when this has been brought up before Mitsubishi really didn't keep any records on how many SHP, and non-SHP, colors, leather vs. cloth and all of that stuff.  I'm pretty sure yearly production numbers is all we have.  That said, there are some things we just know - like red was the most widely available 87 color and colors like Valencia Gold are really rare.  I'd image the Atlantic Blue is pretty uncommon as well.

It depends on what years and if it's a wide body vs. a narrow body. Some colors were only available in certain years and on certain body styles. For example: T87 Fiji Blue Metallic was only available on 88-89 Conquests as well as Y59 San Marino Yellow.

All the colors mentioned so far range from common to mildly rare.  I've owned some of the rarer ones like Valencia Gold.  Shouldn't have sold that one.   If you want to talk really rare colors there's Forrest Green.  I've only seen old pictures of that color.  Also there was a brown color code but I've never seen that one.

It's interesting that the cars had unique paint colors based on their rebadging. For something with all the same mechanical parts, it's cool to know that there are actual differences between the Chrysler, Dodge, and Plymouth versions!

That forest green color may be the rarest. It was one year only, flatbody only and starion only. Believe it was 84

L53 I believe on the green paint code.  Google can't even produce a single vehicle (non-SQ) tied to that paint code...so yeah, pretty rare.  A few years ago several T80's surfaced and I honestly know of more 89 T80 Starions now than Valencia or Olive.  A former member from South GA also had a Seychelles (SP) red widebody which I think only shows as a flatty color in 85 in documentation.  Currently I only know of one other Mezzon gold flatty as well and it's rusting away out the midwest I think.

As far as your Atlantic Blue widebody, certainly one of the rarer widebody colors...and a really nice color IMO (hence why I tried to buy it until the seller scared me off with his antics...LOL).

I believe it was an 85, if memory serves me correctly...but maybe 84.  Flatbody for sure.   I saw one of these in a junkyard in Northwest PA about 13-14 years ago.   I did a second glance because the color was unique but didn't think too much of it.   There was a member here, Kreal (who is Dad's son) who saw the same car a few months later.  He took down the paint code.   I'd have to search these forums but it should still be on here somewhere.   But the two of us can vouch for its existence.

Yes I like the 87 cq atlantic blue.  Not the flashiest of the colors but always looked great with the black trim, etc.   Also love the 86 starion olive, I had one of these years back.  It became the donor car for my current 87 cq.

Atlantic Blue may not be the flashiest color out there but that's more than okay with me! I think once I remove the incredibly tacky reflective chrome crap from the bottom of the doors/fenders, remove the terribly bubbled up window tint, and clean up the trim/louvers, the car will look great! I'm thinking about painting the recessed areas on the wheel spokes black too, but let's focus on getting her running first!

So your VIN tag says Rio Red? Then it was definitely repainted and it could be ANY color a previous owner picked out. In the Starquest there was Cheyenne Red or something like that. My spelling could be off, but they did offer a darker deep red that pretty rare.

It looks close to Seychelles Red, I'm taking the gas door off to scan to see if I can find  a match.
