you can test all the gauges per the electrical section of the FSM under "Meters and Gauges", but you will have to remove the cluster hood and cluster to get to the back of the gauges. Just be careful not to break 30 year old plastic clips and whatnot while doing it

There's 4 sensor on the manifold.  One is your Water Temp Sender.  The other 3 are an A/C swtich, the CTS, and the EGR Thermovalve.   It's hard to tell what you replaced from your initial post b/c I think you're using the wrong terms, but, if you've already replaced the sender and the gauge isn't working then it's either the gauge or a break in the gauge wiring.

Which one of the sensors exactly did you replace?  The sender or the sensor? And which one are they asking $97 for? If my memory serves me correctly the only one of the 4 that's costly is the A/C switch.

#3 talks to the ECU  it starts at around 2200 ohms on cold engine and slowly drops to around 270 ohms fully warmed up.ECU uses this to calculate fuel needed.

#4 is for in case your car gets super hot while running AC  it kills the ac until temperature drops down.

#2 is for EGR also known as Thermo Valve  when car is at full operating temperature it opens and let's fumes from charcoal canister(fuel tank)pass through and get burned  notice vacum line coming to it from charcoal canister.

#1  depending on year some have one prong some have 2   one prong is for the stock temp gage. The other prong is for (automatic car ) only. It basically let's the car go into overdrive when fully warmed up. So if your car is 5 speed manual  and you have 2 prongs? Just use one  it dont matter which.
It should be more like $25 from Napa  and for sure not on NPT thread .Notice the different threads in this picture.
Temp sensors Starquest https://imgur.com/a/x5Q9j4J
One on left is for the ECU (#3)    one on the right is for the stock gage temperature or #1   you can't mix them.
They are designed w different threads so they dont get mixed up. But they look close enough to people who are not familiar w threads and such so it happens often times that it gets screwed in the wrong spot forcefully.

Croquest87 is correct.  You can just put the single prong in.  My 88 Starion M/T had a 2 prong in it from the factory - I replaced it with a single during the restore, no problems at all.

Rock Auto has one for $2.44 - don't spend $97 :D
