Hello,

This question is going to be a bit more for the older guys on the forum.

i know the installed height requirement for valve springs in 1.600, and the coil bind should be below 1.000

however where my question begins now is, what is the maximum diameter of the outer springs? as i have found some crowers with a 1.275 outer diameter coil bind @ .955 and  a 338lb/in pressure rating, which should be better than the schneider dual springs.

has anyone else ran crower valve springs? or any other valve spring with this outer diameter or larger without a need for machining the head?

thanks.

I have to look into the rising rate of a stock spring  and get back with a measurement,  problem with dual spring is making a spring seat to protect the aluminum head.

SBI stock replacement spring # 160-1079  from catalog 70#@ 1.600  and 178@1.200   1.150 coil bind. OD= 1.346

Schneider springs
Part Number: 6610 Spring Type: Single Spring Quantity: 8 Outside Diameter: 1.235" Inside Diameter: 0.920" Installed Height: 1.600" Seat Pressure: 100 lbs Pressure @ .500": 180 lbs Spring Coil Bind:
0.900"

You can't go much bigger OD than your retainer.  Also watch the rising rate of spring pressure  in looking for springs

AAAH ok, well that OD is bigger then what i was looking at, i was looking at some crower springs with coilbind @0.955 od 1.275, the spring rate is just 338/lb/in

Here is a link to the part:
https://www.summitra...9x1-8/overview/

knowing that the spring OD on factory replacement is 1.346 opens it up some. but it seems it still leaves it with sealed power or crower as the options.   it also appears they have a 95lb spring seat pressure @ 1.600 so with a .500 lift it would be 264lbs at valve full open, which is about 80 lbs more then the schneiders springs.  and 4lbs more then schneiders dual valve spring setup.

then there is this option, but the seated pressure @ 1.600 might be a bit excessive.

what do you think about these springs?
