  1. Just wanted to say Hi once again and that I'm back from being away from the forums and my Conquest. I was going to UTI (Universal Technical Institute) in Arizona for their auto program to see if I could really learn more than what was already being taught in books at the library. Since then I have gotten in way over my head and actually want to work as a technician now. I'm currently in the FORD Fact program and have 2 classes left before I graduate with an AS degree (not the best I know...but it works for now). Now Ford is different and I have watched some quit and not come back...some came back but had to wait 3 weeks before they could get a seat. They only have 20 students max. at a time and a min. of 2 teachers. I wanted to really learn how to diagnose problems such as high resistance on the ground side, open and shorts and stuff like that since my Quest is older and was notorious for bad grounds because of corrosion. Ford tests are much harder and you are alone when you do the question tests and the lab tests you actually work on a real car...not a clip car. No help from anyone, no test are the same and no questions are in the same order. You have to have your phone OFF and on your desk if you leave the room....lol. I actually was going crazy because I thought I was not going to find the problem (I had an hour) to diagnose a right headlight out....i calmed down and started over again with 5 mins to spare. If you fail..you have to do the 3 weeks over again. If you diagnose the wrong component...you fail. Give the wrong Voltage value...you fail. Wrong connector...you fail. You had to be on point with the electrical part. Believe me..the school is way over priced but I'm glad I actually put my G.I. bill to good use. So many kids go there cause they think its easy and that they can sleep through it. All they see is getting in a High Performance shop and putting in turbos and such. They don't want to put the work in and get up to that point. They think they are going to get handed the high paying position. Getting up at 5am just to get ready wasn't that hard for me since I had to get up at 4am for PT when I was in the Army. I had to work much harder because I was going up against high school students and people that new more than I did...since I was older and I haven't taken tests in such a long time....lol. I'm surprised how many slip through the cracks because they can do good on 10 questions tests. I've been reading on what people have been doing in their builds and now I have a much better understanding on why something is done and what effect they will have. So now that I'm back I can start on my own build since I have a couple of spare block to work with. So now I'm just deciding on what engine to put in the conquest now. I finished my Fiero with a 3800 S/C and it was a freakn B1@#h to figure out the wiring all from scratch. Learned how to properly fix wiring instead of doing the hack job I was used to doing. LMAO yeah...I would actually leave it that way if it worked. So I posted some pics to show you guys what I did while I was at the school. I worked on the car after school at my friends garage and not at the school. So now that I'm almost done I'll be going back to Georgia or NC to find some work and hopefully work for a nice shop. I already have tools and such but now I'm getting more specific with the selection. So if you guys have any meets down that way I'll be heading out the way in November. If anyone wants to know more about the school or something just PM me and I'll give you more details. Hope the pics show up. How it was before the work. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c393/UARDUM/2010-03-06212308.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c393/UARDUM/2010-03-07201141.jpg Getting the engine out. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c393/UARDUM/2010-03-07201220.jpg Yeah for no rust in AZ!! http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c393/UARDUM/2010-03-07201243.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c393/UARDUM/2010-03-07202225.jpg Some pics while I was in Iraq. 2. If you have your hands on a real GNX engine...don't' even do it. Someone would probably buy that engine alone for about 4k-10k depending on miles. Now if its a regular GN motor then hell yeah. I have a 87 GN and auto tranny is probably the best thing to use for that engine. I had mines rebuild with a 3200 stall and I can build almost 15lbs of boost just on the launch alone. The exhaust routing would probably be easier also as it exits on the same side and the G54B. Seriously tho...I'm really thinking about build my Conquest (bearings went bad) with a GN motor in it since I can work on both car pretty good. Plus to chip and tune the GN motor would probably cost a lot less then those V8 and RB26. Aftermarket support is great for almost all of those. Guess you'll just have to decide on how much of a punishment your wallet can take.
