mistapickles
I realized my build is spread out over 15 threads so....here it all is. I don't have any before pictures of my car before I did my practice hood, these are the first pictures I took of it. I found it in Long Beach and it had sat for a year not running because the owner was an idiot and didn't put the spark plug and injector wires back in the right place. Got it for $500, running with a cracked block, transmission that felt like it was crushing rocks, a diff that moaned like a ********** and struts that bounced like the John on the **********.http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/3/727626/IMG00435.jpghttp://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/3/727626/IMG00434.jpghttp://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/3/727626/Hood%20Vents3.jpg Started working on my side exhaust. This is when I started my side exhaust, before I cut the hole in the floor. I should have cut the hole first but hey, you live and learnhttp://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/3/727626/IMG00758.jpghttp://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/3/727626/IMG00759.jpghttp://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/3/727626/IMG00762.jpghttp://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/3/727626/IMG00757.jpghttp://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/3/727626/IMG00763.jpghttp://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/3/727626/IMG00753.jpg

ZaneGrey04
Wow that engine compartment is clean! I'm trying to get mine stripped so I can paint it. Did you sand blast it before paint or just scuff the original paint?
mistapickles
I had some rust under the brake booster I had to sand blast a little, but the rest just sanded

mistapickles
Started to hate the heat shield I made, it rattled and really didn't hold any heat in at all. So this is the fab of the new one.http://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG00735-20120216-2143.jpgthe flat piece bent...http://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG00743-20120217-1623.jpghttp://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG00742-20120217-1622.jpgmade a piece to enclose the side, you can see the old heat shield next to the new one...made the new one out of galvanized steel, it doesn't weld pretty but it won't rust like the last one...http://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG00746-20120218-0005.jpghttp://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG00745-20120218-0004.jpgMade a panel to keep the outside...outsidehttp://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG00770-20120222-2128.jpgFinished product....http://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG00797-20120227-2124.jpghttp://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG00795-20120227-2123.jpg
mistapickles
Bumper time...I have no idea why I made this so clean...but it is.http://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG_00651.jpgMy air dam was cracked all to hell... I drilled holes on both sides of the crack and directly on the ends of the cracks to prevent further cracking then slathered in some of the toughest epoxy you can find to hold it, pushed it through the holes to make it clamp the pieces togetherhttp://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG_00721.jpghttp://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG_00731.jpghttp://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG_00741.jpghttp://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG_00771.jpgSanded it down with a little filler and it's beautiful and toughhttp://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG_00801.jpghttp://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG_00791.jpghttp://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG_00781.jpg Edited September 16, 2012 by mistapickles
mistapickles
I had painted the underside of my hood before but it was a little too wavy for me so I redid it....while I was under there I was like what the hell, I'm painting underneaths of stuff so I did the header and head light covershttp://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG_01581.jpghttp://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG_01611.jpghttp://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG_01641.jpghttp://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG_01691.jpghttp://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG_01651.jpg

mistapickles
I might be convinced to do some bodywork on my practice hood if you wanted a good one...we'll see if MPGor BOOST wants it first, he asked first.
mistapickles
My girlfriend convinced me to paint the whole car black first then do the red on the front...I was going to paint the front red first then paint the back of the car, but after giving her suggestion some thought, it is easier to see flaws in black than it is in red. So in pursuit of the best paint job I can do the whole thing will be black, except the hood and front bumper, I'm not going to reprep those.Anywho....I lightly blocked my 1/4s and found waviness. It's block and prime time...http://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG_02021_zpsd5d14bea.jpghttp://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG_02061_zps931b9374.jpghttp://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG_02071_zps0fbd3e2b.jpghttp://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG_02101_zpsb98557c5.jpg

89BananaQuest
Man i'm really really diggin the side pipes. Any extra cabin noise with them? Or vibrations? Heat? I assuming ur not running a back seat now with the pipes there?
mistapickles
@tankbob, they're 6x9s, they sound alright on there....looking back on that I would have rather had an uncut parcel cover...@89BananaQuest, all of the above...heat, vibration and noise, it's way better with the new heat shield and as far as vibration and noise it very much a sports car feel...lol
mistapickles
Blocked and wetsanded both quarters, it is absolutely sick how straight they came out.http://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG_02531.jpghttp://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG_02541.jpghttp://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG_02551.jpg Spent an hour and a half with a heat gun melting the plastic, making it flat then cooling it. A royal PITA....but it's really straight and will be worthy of black paint.http://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG_02561.jpghttp://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo278/mistapickles/IMG_02571.jpg
