4 pot brake upgrade

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

Just thought a few of you might be interested in my upgrade that ive just done.

Uses custom brackets, high grade bolts and nordlock washers.

Callipers are off a nissan 300ZX TT, and have been rebuilt with a new seal kit.

These work with stock size rotors.

Im using EBC yellowstuff pads (its a track car after all), but theres a huge selection of pads available for these callipers.

Brake lines are custom 1 piece Goodridge.

Only downside is they wont clear standard 7" rims, will need a 12-15mm spacer. 8" Rears on there should be ok though.

Im running 17x8.5" ROH rims anyway so no problem for me.

Nothing as flash as CAD here, just old fashioned trial and error using a wooden template ;)

I may get some more brackets cut if i can find someone to do it cheaper than these cost as my engineers here RIPPED me off big time!

Please let us know about the brackets. Does it require a different master?

Yup if theres enough interest in them i may look at reproducing them sometime.

Ive changed the master cylinder just as a matter of course as im replacing or renewing everything on the car. Ive used a 1 inch cylinder off a Nissan Patrol 4WD, which only requires a little shaving to fit.

How much more do those calipers weigh than stock ?

Will they clear a stock 16 inch rims ?

How much more surface area is being used as opposed to the stock pad on the stock rotor ?

They are lighter callipers than stock as they are the alloy ones, how much by exactly im not sure but definitely lighter.

Surface area? Who knows. Pad size is similar but with 4 pots will be a much more even braking surface as opposed to single pot standard ones.

Will go bigger rotors eventually but these will suffice for the meantime.

Which type of z32 caliper did you use, aluminum or cast?? 30mm type correct??

Hey Robert

Yep 30mm Aluminium ones :) Theyre pretty readily available over here so a good choice i thought.

US spec. (left hand drive) uses a different master cylinder/brake booster setup then the right hand setup, so the Nissan Patrol MC will not work. I don't think a solution for a larger master cylinder has been found yet. Do a search, buts its been several years when this subject was brought up way back when Oscars's big brake kit came out.

Oh gutted :( Yeah not having a LHD car i wouldnt have known that.

Then again im not sure how bad this would be with a new stock or rekitted stock MC. What piston size is the stock one in the USA spec cars?

I had to use a setup from a mustang. I have a master froma 95 cobra. I need to do this.... as I think it would work very well. Great work as usual Lunacy.

Good to know, I've got one still on my '94 Cobra parts car. Better not throw that away then!

What we really need is specs on rotors. We have so many cars that match our bolt pattern. Short list of the performance cars I know with the same bolt pattern

FD's

Mustangs any year 5lug

Acura CL type S 2001-2003

VR-4's

Talons

.....

I need to hit the parts store with a set of digital calipers.

quick search...

You may need to consider the hub diameter as well as the bolt circle.

The initial list I found for that bolt pattern is:

Acura TSX

Chrysler Concord/Intrepid

Dodge Caravan

Ford Mustang

Honda Accord, S2000, CRV, Civic

Hyundai Tiburon

Infinity G35

Mazda 3, RX8

Mitsubishi Diamante ('99+), 2G Eclipse, 3000GT

Eagle talon 1990-98 Base, ESI, TSI Models

Nissan 300ZX, 350Z, Altima, Maxima, Quest, 240sx

Toyota Camry, Avalon

Lexus ES300, ES330, IS250, IS350, GS300, GS400, LX470

08+ Scion xB
