Hey guys Jawatech here from Bryan, Tx.

I used to hang around here back in 2007ish but disappeared after having to sell my car to escape a financial crisis. 1989 Conquest TSI 5 speed. Worst mistake ever and I have regretted it ever since but could never track it down to get her back... Until now. 11 Years later and I finally was able to find the current owner. I am told the engine is blown and they want to get rid of it. I suspect someone fooled around with the Apexi Neo or cranked the boost. It had ARP studs and a copper head gasket so who knows maybe they spun the crank or melted a piston. Even if the block is fubar I am just super excited to get it back. I am older now and can actually afford to tear into it.

Looking around the forum and its kind of like I never left. What year is it again? What have I missed?

Well the Texas sun was not kind to the paint. That's a shame but at least there is no rust that I've found. We picked it up this afternoon from a farm in the middle of nowhere. The turbo is missing as well as the apexi neo and turbo xs dual stage boost controller. Momo steering wheel still there though and my janky tail boost gauge. lol. Looks like the exact same tires that it had 11 years ago. Rear interior is gone but im pretty sure that was like that before. Someone put their knee in the front and pushed in a small dent that ill need to work out. ITs not as clean as I had hoped but im still very happy to have her home. So far we have cleaned out one literal rat's nest and a snakeskin that was at least 4 ft long.

How much you pay to get it back?   And the last pic surprised me.  Didn't expect tan interior with that exterior color....

Paid $1,500 to get it back. It's already looking much better since I've been cleaning it. Pulled the valve cover to verify ARP studs. I will most likely send a camera down the plug holes and then pull the oil pan and check the crank before I decide what I'm gonna do with it. Either way, I'm gonna need a new turbo. The oil cooler is trashed as well. Also after getting the dirt off and looking closer, it looks like it's just the clear coat that is ruined.

Definitely looks saveable.  Get it mechanically sound and running and then down the road get her painted again and you'll be good to go! :P

I pulled the plugs and sprayed some Deep Creep down the holes and cycled the engine a few times. Starter still works and it's not seized or anything. After turning the steering wheel back and forth while making engine sounds with my mouth for a bit, I decided to go ahead and get some work done finally. Compression test was around 60psi across the board... Bottomed out my 12mm ratchet wrench like a total rookie, and after some blood and cursing, finally removed that shitass intake manifold and threw it into a fire ant hill where it belongs. Lots of gunk in all the water passages. Exhaust studs are...I'm not even gonna try that yet. Going to soak for a week with Deep Creep and then they will get the torch if they don't play nice. We won't be needing that manifold either. Once I get the head off I can check the valves and rings and stuff. Since the Turbo is missing I'll have to choose a replacement and build a manifold to make it all fit where I want. Most likely going to build my own MPI manifold from scratch if the block is ok. Easier said than done, but I don't really see any for sale that don't look like Mad Max props. I'm ok with the mad scientist look as long as the welds don't look like hammered dog s***. I'm not the best welder so ill pay someone who is. I'm sure I'm getting ahead of myself but I had to tell someone my bad ideas.

Just pull it out and give it full rebuild.

MPI intakes are usually readily available.  No need to build your own...unless you just want to invest the time....

Finally pulled the car up to the real shop and decided to strip it down. I still haven't pulled the head off yet, but I'm considering doing the 1UZFE swap w/ VVT.  Engine will come out next weekend probably.
