Front Tow Hook

Recommended Posts

What have you guys done for a front tow hook? My stock tow hooks are all bent up from the previous owner. I had to get towed last week and was afraid that my airdam was going to get damaged because of how bent they are. I'd like to get something that sticks out a little farther than the airdam to keep it from getting damaged. I've seen this thread, but I don't have a welder to build my own. Any generics out there that work with only simple modification (drilling, bending,no welding)?

I welded a 3/8'' 2x2 angle across the oem hooks.

then a 1/2 or so plate to it with a hook.

Works great...and its centered.

If your skills are fabricated....lol

you can do this with bolts...it doesnt have to be welded.

Just cut some angles drill some holes and bolt it all together.

Sometimes sitting and staring at something......might make you look stupid....but can be very helpful.....also having extra steel laying around can help....just a little :D

For recovery, a tow strap is fine and you can tuck it out of the way. The hooks won't save your airdam either, they aren't there for that. A mod I did on my Vette was to bolt a pair of skateboard wheels to either side, that sit lower than the splitter. On a Starion you'd have to fabricate something to mount that to but just an idea that works.

are the tow hooks just bolted on?

Currently, yes. I'd like something that bolts into the stock location if possible.

That's a pretty good idea. Only problem is that the stock hooks are totally bent sideways so I would have to find some decent stock ones for that to work.

That's true but the way they are bent, the tow strap hits the vertical part of the airdam on right turns.

Thanks for all of your posts. I'll post some pictures after work to better show what I'm dealing with.

I have some spares....if you want to buy them??

But, if you jack the car up, get a long pry bar and poke through one of the holes.

You can easily straighten them back.

Mine where bent over really bad too....on a different starquest. They bend back... trust me!

A little heat helps too.....steel has a memory when heated it remembers its shape.....sometimes.

Here's the drivers side hook. I think the PO tried to bend it to where it went through the smaller opening better.

Here is the passenger side.

pass. side would be easy fix.

If you have a small jack....the handle for the jack...or a engine hoist type handle fits in the hole nicely...and you can bend it back out straight.

That drivers side....i'd be worried about it being week from how far bent it is.

But Its worth a shot.

Yeah I wondered about that. How much do you want for your hooks freebird?
