I'm putting together a new project and have a magna distributor I would like to use. I am planning to run a wasted spark set up. Can any one confirm that this distributor will work for this. I did find some old posts with the 4 wire diagram showing inner and outer pick ups. I have configured the MS2 v3 for hall effect and installed two of the BIP373 coil drivers.
I'm just not sure what else will be needed?
Also I wanted to remove the piece that holds the rotor so just the 4 tooth wheel is left. I pulled the c clip but it's not wanting to come apart so before I damage it, any one know how it comes apart?
Appreciate any help!

Yes it will, done it several times now, in fact doing one right now but for sequential ignition.  To run both the cam and crank signals you will need two ignition inputs, the V3 boards have a proto area where you can build the additional cam circuit OR for waste spark you can use one of these trigger wheels in place of the four slot magna:  https://www.diyautot...0det-or-ka24de/.  It's a drop in 12-1 emulation trigger wheel and eliminates the need to run a second "cam" trigger, much easier than building another circuit.  Do realize it flips the signals, the four slot/single slot original trigger wheel has the four slots on the outside and the single on the inside, the replacement has the single cam window on the outside and the 12-1 pattern on the inside, no big deal.

The rotor post is held in by a screw in the middle typically

Hey Scott thanks for the information, is there any benefit in changing to the 12-1 wheel other than not needing to build the extra circuit?
My plan is to use wasted spark right now since I have the coil pack and other components.

I just went out and took a look at my Magna distributor and it does not look like the picture in the link you posted for the diy 12:1 wheel. It has a cap with two sets of sensors that pick up on the legs as they pass through one with 4 outer legs and 1 with one inner leg.like this
http://starion.mrbde...m.au/magna.html
Do you have to change the pick up when converting to the 12 1 wheel since it's a flat disc?

Also no screw in the center of the rotor stand just the c clip that I have removed.

Ah, the "vanes" type sensor, I have no experience with that one.  You'll have to build the second circuit, differences shown here:  http://www.msextra.c...l.htm#sohcmitsy
