Convette
So with all this splitter stuff I finally got around to building mine. Yes its ply wood, as it sits I have about $26 and about 4hrs. Just need to finish painting and bolt it up. I'm going to try a bunch of new aero enablers in the next few weeks. I like going fast and I want to stick. http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w239/johnboy9788/IMAG1575.jpghttp://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w239/johnboy9788/IMAG1579.jpghttp://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w239/johnboy9788/IMAG1581.jpghttp://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w239/johnboy9788/IMAG1583.jpghttp://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w239/johnboy9788/IMAG1584.jpg This is bolted to the front x member, and the frame rails with plent adjustment, also hidden behine the air damn. I can also adjust it forward or back for more function. Still to finish painting and bolt it up..
dmyers151
I can dig it, looks pretty well thought out, part splitter, part flat bottom. You might consider bracing the wood though, it's very likely to deform and possibly shatter at speed.

creakyjoints
Undertray too! Dont worry about plywood it has been used before with good result. You plan on doing the whole underside? I would brace the front though like dymer said. Cheap and affective. Edited April 23, 2012 by creakyjoints
Convette
yeah I'm prolly going to do 2 more attach points for a little extra strenth out near the wheels, and some light weight bracing. I do plan on flatting out the whole underside eventually. I have to start working on the rear of the car... diffuser time.

RF600
Ask the guys on Top Gear what happened when they did that! It may have been planned out to catch fire just for the show. It was on one of the cars Jeremy was driving.
Mike_StarionTSI
Make sure you put some sort of water sealant. Would suck to see that just split open. Aside that, looks pretty good. Funny how you're using wood, and have a vette motor. Vette floors are wood
Turborusty
I'd just keep the block of wood that holds it up......it seems sturdy Turborusty
IntercooledFlatty
I do plan on flatting out the whole underside ....... so you are saying it would be better on a Flatty? i see that welding helmet back there, how do you weld plywood ? Convette
I'll see if I can find a 100lb asain guy to step on it when it's on Lol. This is much cheaper right now, I am looking into carbon eventually..but if I crash, its only an $18 loss.

Technology
If you have some room on the top side, maybe some aluminum angle "iron" would help keep it from bending.
SFBMX88
You really should be able to stand on it though. My room mate had a splitter on his RSX, and it shattered at about 75-80mph on the track.

NotStock88
john, you never cease to amaze me with your ingenuity. i like the idea of getting it all mocked up in plywood and tested before a final piece is made. i look forward to you having a meet this year (not sure if you planned on it or not). Convette
Thanks man. I bolted it up last night, and added some support to it, still needs attatch points near the tires for a little extra rigidity.. and paint (tonight)http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w239/johnboy9788/IMAG1593.jpghttp://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w239/johnboy9788/IMAG1590.jpg
mistapickles
shoot it with gel coat.....it's tough as nails, it'll waterproof the wood and it'll take a hit here and there without chipping or cracking.

I think its pretty sweet myself. True that! I was thinking about going into his MAFT thread and tell him having a MAFT is dumb. Cars were made to get from point A to point B easily. Who needs to do all that tuning? That stuff may be good for race cars, but our cars aren't race cars, according to Cal Looks good. I also reccomend a little gelcoat if you stick with the wood piece. It will help waterproof the wood and avoid any warpage due to moisture. Edited April 25, 2012 by Burton
