Mk1 Strut Bar

Recommended Posts

I bought one a few days ago at that price too. Too good to pass up.

I figure that along with the Eibachs, full polys, and all new suspension should make it handle like it's on rails.

I'm with you on wondering what the "blem" is. Once we all have them we'll have to compare.

I've bought a couple blem items off 101 in the past and I couldn't find anything wrong with them.

I ordered one too before christmas. got it the day after. mine just looked like it had a couple scratches here and there. but nothing big. i dont care about scratches so im leaving it the way it is, and am extremely happy with it as i always am with his product :-D.

now i just need a rear one.

Same, mine came yesterday, it's got some deep(ish) scratches on the edges, but nothing I'm gonna cry about. Again, for $60 it was a deal and a half.

As for a rear, I love my TEP bar, even if I did take a beating on the price. It also came with all the wiring to do a battery relocation.

Mine is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. Will check it out when it gets here. But until then, had to add one of these!!!

Got my "blem" bar yesterday, and there was a big hole in the side of the box

The bar was fine though - had a few scratches but don't really care about that.

For the bolts connecting the tower rings to the to bar, how much should they be tighted?

If I had to guess 7-10 ft/lbs. Much more than that and you will likely strip the bolt/nut.

On second look at mine the welds on the plates look like crap. Chicken splattered pretty bad. Still not a big deal at all. I sand blasted them and cleaned up the weld area a bit before some new paint. All good

Yeah Mike, when I inspected mine closer it was the same deal, the uprights on the mounting plate had spatter'd welds. I'm gonna hit up the hardware store before I install mine also, I wanna try to find larger diameter bolts that mount the bar to the plates, the ones provided are too small and allow for a bunch of slop.

Dale I used some 1/4" stainless bolts I had laying around and it was a PITA to get the bar on the car. The stud holes just wouldn't quite line up for me without putting some serious torque on it. Without drilling it out I don't think I could have gone with any larger bolts.
