I've always liked these cars and finally decided I had found the right one to buy.

1 owner from new, 50k miles, always registered in Florida, and largely stored indoor.  Drove it home from Florida to Michigan last week and put it into winter storage.

Can't wait for spring, already have some small projects planned.

Thanks "obsolete" I was super happy to find her.  

I only have a couple images of her from the ad "PreludeDude".  It was literally in my driveway for an hour then went to a friend garage for storage.

Maybe I'll snap some shots of it there this weekend.

So after crawling through it last weekend (in storage) I was left with a couple questions and a couple projects.  

Question 1 - Has it been tuned?
- Cat back exhaust done by previous owner (PO)
- K&N air filter added by PO
- Suspicious sticker on dash that says Premium Fuel only (doesn't appear original)
- PO said "the shop" added the sticker when he had the exhaust done...

Question 2 - performance
- Not wanting to take the car any less original, but never above adding a little power is there any way to pull a little more PSI from the stock turbo or is it pretty maxed out?
- Any other options that keep it pretty stock looking?  I read ECU reprogramming for 87 is a good idea.

Project 1
- Have to fix a suspicious gas smell when you open it up full (seal kit here already for spring)
- Stutters when second injector comes online, but then has power (clean injector and contacts) could also be the seal issue I suppose

Project 2
- Drivers seat thigh bolster torn.  Recover?  Can't seem to find one

Project 3
- Steering wheel buttons are worn, have replacement part but it is also imperfect (FAR BETTER THOUGH)
- Is there a known good way to refinish these metallic buttons?

Project 4
- Replace Drivers window switch
- works up but rarely
- have part already

Project 5
- Ok hard to call this a project, but I just noticed from the photos I did that I need a wheel center cap too...

I'll try to answer a few of these:

Question 1. Has it been tuned?  

• There isn't much in the way of 'tuning' for these cars with the factory electronics.   I'd definitely verify that your vacuum advance is working properly, do a ISC/TPS reset, and check your codes.  Clean out your air intake lines and intercooler.  Put in new injector clips and a throttle body rebuild kit.   Check or replace your vacuum lines.   plugs/wires/cap/rotor....all the normal 'tune up' stuff....

Question 2. Performance

• I'm not aware of anyone reprogramming an 87 ECU.  The 88/89 ECU has a more advanced fuel curve and is a common swap.  An 88/89 knock box is a common 'upgrade' (helps reliability over performance).   Obviously an 88/89 wastegate will give you the 10psi of boost.

Project 1 Fuel smell

• Most likely needs a TB rebuild seal kit.   It may be worth sending your injectors out to have them cleaned/flow checked while it is a part.
  
• The main fuel line to the TB sometimes gets pin hole leaks.  But it would be spraying fuel at all times

Project 2. Bolster

• There are no aftermarket sources for seat upholstery.  Have to go to an upholstery shop or find a good used part

Project 3. Steering Wheel Buttons

• A member here by the name of Natallica reproduces these.   He hasn't been too active on here much over the past few years but I'm pretty sure he still provides these.   There is a link in his signature to his webpage and personal email

Project 4. Window switch

• Could definitely be the switch but also your window tract may need some good cleaning/re-grease.

Project 5. Center cap

• There aren't anymore sources for OEM caps.  A few members have made aftermarket aluminum caps but they aren't the same if you are going for originality.

Kev thanks for all the info and ideas.  Ordered the overlay and will try it with the original buttons since they are the worst set.
