MPI question for newb

Recommended Posts

Mpi

Multi port injection

4 injectors from fuel rail into their own cylinder

Stock tbi

Throttle body injection

2 injectors that spray into the throttle body

Mpi can be tuned for more hp, or for better fuel economy.

Not recommend for rookie mechanics. Trust me, my Mpi tuning has been quite a challenge

What's the cost of the MPI conversion parts? And true HP gains & mpg improvements? Is the worth the $ on a daily driver with s few mods(exhaust, filter & boost controller)?

Also is there a link that shows 0-60 & 1/4 times with HP gains certain mods whether bolt on or internal engine mod?

Looking to get into an 89 TSI' 5spd again the last one we had those simple bolt on mods & had no idea how much of a gain over stock we had. It felt much faster BUT we know how that goes....

IMO if your looking to stay under 300hp it really is not worth it. your gonna spend at least 1000 in parts alone and alot of time or money getting it tuned. you can achieve 30mpg on a stock tbi car and a really reasonable amount of power.

You will spend over $1000 in all parts alone. If you get a good fuel computer it can cost you $1000 alone. Most modded magnas go for around $500. You need a mustang tb, 3 bar map sensor, custom ic piping.

It adds up. There is a full setup for sale for $1750 in parts for sale now, and its far less than he paid. There's also a bolt on hurricane setup for $2000 for sale too.

Then it would need to be tuned on top of that.

It makes the car a whole new beast by far but its no easy or cheap process

For a daily I would just stick to the TBI setup. There are a few things you can do to get some good hp #'s out of the stock setup and not go through as many headaches and $$. If you use your car as a daily and you go with MPI then you will need to find another means of transportation as backup untill you can be certain your work and your tune is reliable. You WILL run into problems that will force your car to have some downtime. My car has seen plenty of down time. I wish I would have stayed with the stock setup and just did the mods necessary to get more power. I got in over my head with all this and have regreted it ever since.

It sounds like I don't need the MPI upgrade and it's a bit of a nuisance for a daily machine.

But mods to 300 HP is great for my daily driver. What type of performance can one expect from a Conquest with that HP vs stock HP?

A stock SQ with a good running engine will put 225~250 to the ground. An MPI car can go as high as you are willing to pay. I know of one car that has around 700hp.

Below is a link to a post that shows some of the cars that have been built, without swapping the engine.
