Looking into building an engine

Alright heres the scoop i have a stock longblock with a rod nock sitting in my shop and a good low milage stock engine in the car now.

I am thinking about building a mildly modded engine and am thinkin about going MPI on this. I would like imput from anybody on here about MPI swaps and engine rebuilds that would help me narrow down the best way to do this and still have reliability at the moment this is my daily driver.

 

Also not looking at a large amount of horse power around 250-300 horse would be plenty

 

also have a stock planed head is it worth using

 

More wanting personal oppinions on what ppl think i should do than links to other builds

Well sure 400hp is capable on a stock bottom end, but for how long? If you plan to build an engine, why not go all out? I wish I would have built my engine after I spun #1 bearing. Now I run MPI on a stock block, cant really harness the full power the MPI has to offer.

did you do the MPI swap your self ? if so what all did you use and how did you do it ?

You don't need one special non stock replacement part except for a clutch and a moderate size turbo to have a 250hp daily driver and if you want 300 then you'll need a fuel translator and fuel pressure regulator to make it more driveable. You sure don't need an mpi swap for that.

Good point. MPI swaps can be alot of work, frustration, and empty pockets.

Well duh it makes no sense, that was my point. Why in the world did I go MPI before I built the block. Better yet, why did I go MPI in the first place? I could really make some power by cranking the boost up, but on a stock bottom end, that is not a wise decision. Which was also my point.

The block, stock or not, has nothing to do with the power your making.

 

not sure where this comment came from and i know that it has to do with the internals, that was more what i was wondering about like what pistons and cam to use and so on

It was a reply to the statement above it. I guess I should have used the quote feature.

 

The stock pistons and rods would be fine for 250-300hp. You could spend 500 on forged pistons if you want. You can have your stock rods reworked or you can spend 800 on Pauter rods. The key to mpi is the tune. If its tuned properly the stock components will hold up fine. The forged stuff will just give you a little more leeway on mistakes.
